Tsukasa POV
It was the next day after practice. Rui invited me over, and I made it to his house. It was nighttime now, but the clouds made it even darker than normal. It would probably rain later, just like it had yesterday.
I knocked on the door to Rui's house, and he answered. “Hey, Tsukasa.”
He led me to his room, covered in robot parts, and papers that I assumed were plans for the robots. It was kind of a disaster, but I know how hard Rui works, so I can't complain about the mess.
“So, what did you want to do exactly? I didn't really come up with a plan…” Rui looked a little guilty. I was happy doing anything with him though.
“I'll do anything with you!” I told him.
“Anything? Hehehehe.” Rui did his usual evil giggles. I thought they were cute, but I didn't want to become a victim of his experiments today.
“Hey! I don't plan on becoming your test subject today!” I exclaimed.
“Well then, if you don't like my suggestion, what's something you’ve been really wanting to do? I'll do anything with you. Or for you.” He looked serious, and my heart skipped a beat at the thought of Rui willing to do anything for me.
“There is one thing…” I began. Since the day I met Rui, I thought his hair looked soft, and I really just wanted to run my hands through it. Rui looked at me, waiting for me to continue.
“It's probably going to sound strange, but can I touch your hair?” I asked. Rui's eyes widened slightly in surprise at my question. He was probably expecting me to suggest an actual activity to do together. But he didn't object.
“Yeah, sure.” He answered. He stood in front of me, and I reached my arms up to feel his hair.
“Soft. Just like I thought it was going to be!” I declared.
Our faces were really close together, and we stared into each other's eyes for a moment. I thought I saw Rui's eyes glance down at my lips for a second, but then he broke eye contact, so I couldn't be sure. He looked flustered for a moment before speaking.
“I’ve got a good idea. Follow me.” He grabbed my hand and took me to his living room. We sat on the couch beside each other, and I watched while he scrolled through a bunch of movies on the TV.
“Hehe. Here it is. Do you want to watch this?” He asked.
“A horror movie?” I asked.
“Are you scared?”
“Of course not!”
“Then this should be fun. I hear this one has a lot of jump scares in it.” Rui said as he started the movie and we began watching. After about an hour, I was hooked on the plot, even though I had jumped at least five times.
It was also one of the coldest nights we've had in a while. Rui and I were squished up against each other at this point trying to stay warm. But I had gotten so invested in the movie that I forgot about being cold, and I wasn't thinking about how close I was to him.
Then Rui paused the movie and I suddenly became very aware of both of those things. I brought my hands up to my face, attempting to hide my own blush.
“Why'd you pause it?” I asked.
“So I could get us some blankets.” He answered. Then he stood up to go get them.
But before he came back, the power suddenly went out. It was pitch black, not even the moon or stars were out tonight because of the clouds. I realized now that it was raining really hard outside, and there was the occasional sound of thunder.
“Where are you, Tsukasa?” I heard Rui's voice not very far away from me, and I was pretty sure he was standing in front of me.
“I'm right here.” I said. Then I felt his hand touch my face.
“Is this you?” He said as he held his hand under my chin. His thumb briefly traced over my bottom lip.
“Yes it's me, who else would it be?!” I asked, completely flustered by what he just did. I heard him laugh a little, and I was sure he did that on purpose to get a reaction out of me. My eyes were beginning to adjust to the darkness, and I could just barely see Rui sit down beside me.
“Well, so much for the movie. I wasn't expecting the power to cut out.” Rui said. He tossed a blanket at my face. I put it on, grateful to have it now that the heater won't be working.
Rui POV
Of course it was raining right now. It was like the world was begging me to confess to him tonight. We always have the best moments together when it rains. I was starting to believe that maybe I had a chance with him since he hugged me and we held hands yesterday.
I suddenly felt really nervous. The idea of possibly confessing to him made my stomach twist. Truthfully, I'm scared he'll reject me and stop being my friend. I tell myself that he wouldn't just abandon me like that, but I could never be sure. I tried to push those thoughts out of my mind.
“It's like it's always raining when we're together.” I told Tsukasa.
“I know. I like it when it rains, but it's not helping me feel any warmer right now.” He replied, sinking further into the blanket I gave him.
“We can always cuddle together, if you're that cold.” I told him, wondering how he'd react. I was surprised by my own confidence to say that.
“What?!” He exclaimed.
“Hehe. Just a suggestion.” I said, secretly hoping he'd agree to it.
“Well, I am cold…” Tsukasa said while he shifted close enough to me to share my blanket. I put my arm around him and he snuggled even closer to me.
“Do you want me to put my phone's flashlight on?” I asked after a few minutes, wondering why we were still in complete darkness when we had light available.
“I don't mind the darkness.” Tsukasa answered.
“You just want to sleep.” I said.
“You make a good pillow.” He replied.
“But we've been in the dark for so long I'm going to forget what your face looks like.” I said dramatically.
“You wouldn't forget the face of a world future star, would you?” Tsukasa asked, putting his face just inches away from mine.
“You're right, I'd never forget your face.” I said. I brought my hand up to his cheek. I felt him gently grip my wrist, but he didn't move my hand away.
My heart was beginning to beat so fast that I wondered if it was going to explode out of my chest. I tried to bring my face a little closer to his, but since it was dark, I ended up leaning too far forward. Our lips brushed together, and our foreheads hit.
Then out of nowhere, the power came back on. We both squinted our eyes against the light. Our faces were still only a small distance apart.
Tsukasa’s eyes flicked down to my lips, and I knew this was my opportunity. Our lips connected, and I gently kissed him. I could feel him kiss me back, his lips soft against mine. This was probably the greatest feeling I've ever felt.
We pulled away from each other, both of our faces completely flushed. I looked away from Tsukasa, not really knowing what to say now that we just kissed.
“So, now that the power is back, should we finish the movie?” I asked.
“No, the movie can wait.” He replied. I turned to look at him again, and before I knew it, he was already kissing me. I held his waist and pulled him closer to me until his chest was against mine. I could feel his fast heart rate, and I knew he must be able to feel mine as well.
