Seungmin’s pulse thundered in his ears, every nerve in his body on high alert. He could feel Jisung’s grip on his collar, the heat of his breath so close that it sent a chill down Seungmin’s spine. For a second, he couldn’t breathe, caught between the overwhelming urge to push Jisung away and the equally powerful desire to close the distance between them.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. It wasn’t supposed to mean anything.

But in this moment, it was impossible to ignore the intensity between them.

Jisung’s voice, soft but sharp, sliced through Seungmin’s thoughts. “Tell me you don’t want this.”

Seungmin’s lips parted, the words hovering at the edge of his tongue. He wanted to say it—to deny everything, to put an end to this twisted, unspoken thing between them. But the lie wouldn’t come out. Instead, he felt his chest tighten, his heart betraying him as it pounded harder, faster.

Jisung must have noticed the hesitation because his grip on Seungmin loosened slightly, though he didn’t let go. His dark eyes searched Seungmin’s face, and for the first time, Seungmin saw something flicker behind them—something more than anger or arrogance. It was vulnerability, raw and fleeting, like a crack in the cold mask Jisung always wore.

Seungmin swallowed hard, forcing himself to speak. “Jisung, we… we can’t keep doing this.”

Jisung’s eyes narrowed slightly, and for a second, Seungmin thought he might argue, might push harder like he always did. But then Jisung’s grip softened, his fingers brushing lightly against Seungmin’s collar before they dropped to his side. The space between them grew, but the tension remained, a lingering pulse in the air.

“I know,” Jisung said quietly, his voice almost resigned.

Seungmin blinked, surprised by the response. He had expected Jisung to fight, to force Seungmin into admitting what they both knew was true—that they couldn’t just walk away from whatever this was. But instead, Jisung stepped back, his expression unreadable once again.

“But that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop,” Jisung added, his tone hardening just enough to remind Seungmin that he was still Jisung—confident, infuriating, impossible to predict.

Seungmin let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding, his body still tense, every muscle coiled as though waiting for the other shoe to drop. “This isn’t sustainable,” he said, his voice rougher than he intended. “We hate each other. You’re my competition, and I’m yours. This…” He gestured between them, struggling to find the words. “This is just a mess.”

Jisung’s lips twitched into a faint smile, though there was no humor in it. “You think I don’t know that? That I haven’t tried to keep this in check?”

Seungmin shook his head, frustrated. “Then why keep pushing? Why keep dragging this out when we both know it’s going to blow up in our faces?”

Jisung’s expression darkened, and for the first time, Seungmin saw a flicker of something like desperation behind his gaze. “Because,” Jisung said slowly, his voice barely more than a whisper, “I can’t stop.”

The words hung in the air, heavy and unspoken for so long that when they finally came out, they hit Seungmin like a punch to the gut. His breath caught in his throat, and for a moment, he couldn’t move, couldn’t think.

Jisung couldn’t stop.

Seungmin’s heart stuttered in his chest, torn between the truth they were finally confronting and the painful reality of what it meant. This wasn’t just lust, wasn’t just a fleeting moment of weakness. It had turned into something else—something neither of them could control.

Seungmin took a step back, needing the distance, needing to clear his head before he said something he’d regret. “Jisung, I—”

But Jisung cut him off, his voice firm but not unkind. “Don’t. I’m not asking you to feel the same way. I’m not asking for anything.”

Seungmin froze, unsure of how to respond. The vulnerability in Jisung’s words, in his eyes—it was so unlike him, so far removed from the cold, arrogant CEO Seungmin had come to know over the years. It made Seungmin’s stomach twist with confusion, with something that felt uncomfortably close to guilt.

But he didn’t feel the same. He couldn’t.

“I…” Seungmin’s voice trailed off, and he looked down at his hands, feeling the weight of everything pressing down on him. He hated this. Hated the mess they’d made of their lives, hated how Jisung had gotten under his skin in a way no one else ever had.

Jisung didn’t say anything more. He simply watched Seungmin, his expression guarded but no longer unreadable. It was almost as though he was waiting for something—for Seungmin to make the next move, to finally decide whether to push him away or close the distance between them again.

For a long, agonizing moment, neither of them spoke. The tension hung in the air like a heavy fog, thick and suffocating. And then, finally, Seungmin made his decision.

“I’m not ready for this,” he whispered, barely loud enough for Jisung to hear.

Jisung’s eyes softened, and for once, there was no trace of a smirk, no hint of the cocky attitude he usually carried. Instead, he nodded, his voice soft. “I know.”

Without another word, Seungmin turned and left, his heart pounding painfully in his chest as he walked away from the man who had always been his rival—his enemy. But now, Jisung had become something more. Something dangerous. Something Seungmin wasn’t sure he could handle.

But deep down, he knew this wasn’t the end.

It never would be.
