The silence between them stretched on, thick and heavy, but for once, it didn’t feel uncomfortable. Seungmin lay still, his back facing Jisung as the warmth of the other man’s body pressed against him, a quiet presence that both soothed and unnerved him.
It was strange—this sense of calm after all the chaos. Usually, Seungmin would leave immediately after they were done, not wanting to linger in the awkward aftermath of their nights together. But this time, he had stayed. And Jisung hadn’t let go.
Seungmin’s thoughts raced, trying to process what had just happened. This wasn’t how things were supposed to be. They hated each other. Their relationship was nothing more than a shared physical release—an outlet for the frustrations of being rival CEOs. And yet, tonight had felt different. Jisung had been different.
Seungmin felt Jisung shift slightly behind him, his arm tightening just a bit around Seungmin’s waist as if to silently ask him to stay. Seungmin closed his eyes, trying to ignore the way his heart fluttered at the gesture. He shouldn’t be feeling this way—shouldn’t be reacting to Jisung with anything other than anger or annoyance.
But that was the problem. Lately, his feelings toward Jisung had become more complicated, and it was getting harder to keep them at bay.
Jisung’s breath was warm against the back of Seungmin’s neck, steady and calm, as if this moment wasn’t as monumental as it felt to Seungmin. As if this was just another night for Jisung, with no deeper meaning attached.
Maybe that was true for him. Maybe Seungmin was the only one feeling this shift, the only one overthinking their arrangement. He clenched his hands into the sheets, trying to remind himself that this was temporary—that he couldn’t afford to let things get more complicated than they already were.
“I’m leaving in the morning,” Seungmin finally said, his voice barely audible in the quiet of the room.
Jisung didn’t respond right away. The silence stretched on for so long that Seungmin wondered if he’d fallen asleep. But then he felt Jisung’s fingers brush lightly against his side, a soft, almost absent-minded touch.
“You don’t have to.”
The words were simple, but they hit Seungmin like a wave. He tensed, his heart pounding in his chest as he struggled to process the weight behind them.
This wasn’t supposed to happen. Jisung wasn’t supposed to care whether he stayed or left. They weren’t supposed to cross these lines. But the way Jisung’s voice had softened, the way he had said those words, made it clear that something had changed.
Seungmin swallowed hard, fighting the urge to pull away. He couldn’t let himself get caught up in whatever this was. He had to stay focused—on his company, on the rivalry that had always defined their relationship. Anything more would be a disaster waiting to happen.
But despite his best efforts to keep his guard up, Seungmin found himself relaxing into the warmth of Jisung’s embrace, just for a moment. It was dangerous—this feeling of safety, of comfort—but for once, Seungmin let himself indulge in it.
“I won’t stay forever,” Seungmin whispered, more to himself than to Jisung.
Jisung’s fingers stilled for a moment before he spoke, his voice low and quiet. “I know.”
Seungmin didn’t respond. He didn’t know what to say, didn’t know how to navigate this sudden shift between them. All he knew was that for the first time, he wasn’t sure he wanted to leave. Not yet.
As the night wore on, the two of them lay there in the quiet, neither willing to break the fragile peace that had settled over them. Seungmin closed his eyes, his mind heavy with thoughts he wasn’t ready to confront.
Eventually, exhaustion began to creep in, pulling Seungmin under. Just before he drifted off to sleep, he felt Jisung’s hand on his, a quiet, grounding presence that made Seungmin’s heart ache in ways he couldn’t explain.
For now, he let himself stay.
Tomorrow, he would deal with the consequences.
But tonight, he would let himself pretend that things between them weren’t so complicated.
