The shift in their relationship was subtle at first. A stolen glance here, a fleeting touch there. It was a slow unraveling of the tension they had carried for so long, replaced by something neither could name but both felt deeply.
Seungmin found himself waiting for Jisung’s messages in the middle of the day, messages that were no longer filled with sharp remarks or cryptic statements. Instead, they were simple, sometimes even thoughtful.
Jisung: "How’s the presentation going?"
Seungmin: "It’s fine. Why do you care?"
Jisung: "Because I like seeing you succeed. Also, don’t forget to eat."
Seungmin rolled his eyes at the message but couldn’t hide the small smile that tugged at his lips.
---
It wasn’t long before the world around them started to notice.
“Mr. Kim, you’ve been spending a lot of time with Mr. Han lately,” one of Seungmin’s board members commented during a meeting.
“It’s business,” Seungmin replied curtly, avoiding their knowing smirk.
But he knew it was only a matter of time before the whispers turned into something louder. The media would love nothing more than to uncover the secret dynamics between two rival CEOs.
“People are starting to talk,” Seungmin said one evening as he and Jisung shared dinner in Jisung’s penthouse.
Jisung smirked, sipping his wine. “Let them. It’s none of their business.”
“It could affect our companies,” Seungmin pressed, but his tone lacked the conviction it usually carried.
“Or it could make us unstoppable,” Jisung countered, leaning back in his chair. “Think about it. Two of the most powerful CEOs working together. They wouldn’t dare challenge us.”
Seungmin sighed, pushing his plate away. “You make everything sound so simple.”
“That’s because it is,” Jisung said, his voice softer now. “As long as we’re on the same side, nothing else matters.”
---
One evening, after a particularly grueling day, Seungmin found himself at Jisung’s door. He hadn’t planned to come, but his feet had carried him there before his mind could catch up.
Jisung opened the door, his expression shifting from surprise to concern.
“What happened?” he asked, stepping aside to let Seungmin in.
“Nothing,” Seungmin said, though his exhausted demeanor betrayed him. “I just… needed to get away.”
Jisung didn’t press further. Instead, he led Seungmin to the couch, pouring him a glass of wine and sitting beside him.
For a while, they sat in comfortable silence, the city lights twinkling outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.
“You know,” Jisung began, his voice breaking the quiet, “I used to think I had everything I wanted. The company, the power, the respect. But then you came along.”
Seungmin turned to him, his brow furrowing. “And what? I ruined it?”
“No,” Jisung said, his lips quirking into a small smile. “You made me realize how empty it all felt without someone to share it with.”
Seungmin’s chest tightened at the confession. He wasn’t used to Jisung being so vulnerable, so open.
“You’re such an idiot,” Seungmin muttered, though there was no bite to his words.
Jisung chuckled, leaning closer. “Maybe. But I’m your idiot.”
Seungmin rolled his eyes but didn’t resist when Jisung pressed a soft kiss to his temple.
---
As the days turned into weeks, they began to build something more substantial. It wasn’t always easy—Seungmin’s fear of vulnerability often clashed with Jisung’s need for control—but they found a rhythm that worked for them.
One night, after yet another late-night meeting, Seungmin found himself staring at Jisung as he worked on his laptop.
“What?” Jisung asked, not looking up.
Seungmin hesitated before speaking. “Do you think this will last?”
Jisung finally looked at him, his expression serious. “It will if we want it to.”
The simplicity of the statement struck Seungmin. Maybe it really was that simple.
