Arjun's POV:
I saw Deepika's eyes narrow on the back of my head in the rearview mirror, her eyebrows furrowed. It was like she had figured something out.
No way.
There was no way those morons had shown up again. I made sure they got the message last time. So what was that look on her face? I bit my lip, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling.
Sanjay revved the engine, snapping me back to reality. Joshitha and Lavanya were squashed behind him, while Manoj and Daniel sat behind me, and poor Meera and Deepika were squished between everyone in the middle.
Just as we were about to pull out of the department, Rahul's car rolled up beside us. Vishal was sitting next to him with a smug grin, and a couple of hostel boys sat in the backseat, all looking far too confident for their own good.
"Shall we race?" Rahul hollered, loud enough for everyone to hear.
Sanjay grinned, revving the engine louder. "You'll lose," he shot back.
Rahul smirked. "Confidence, huh? You know the viewpoint on the hill?"
"Yeah, what about it?" Sanjay asked.
"Last one to reach there pays for everything at the mall. Deal?" Rahul asked.
"Don't do it!" Deepika muttered behind me, her voice tense.
"Do it! He's asking for it!" Manoj shouted. "We'll teach him a lesson!"
Sanjay glanced at me. I nodded, already feeling the adrenaline start to surge.
"Deal!" Sanjay shouted.
"Get set, go!" Rahul yelled, and Sanjay floored it.
Rahul's car shot ahead, leaving us choking on his dust. The road was flying by, the car shaking as Sanjay slammed his foot down on the gas. We swerved to avoid an old man on a cycle, and the backseat exploded in chaos.
"Oh my god, we're going to die!" Lavanya screamed, clutching onto Meera's arm.
"No, I am too young to die!" Meera cried, half-laughing, half-terrified.
"Watch the road, Sanjay!" Deepika screamed in my ear as we barely missed another pedestrian.
Sanjay whipped the car toward the main road, and there it was-traffic. A line of cars. "No! Not traffic!" Manoj groaned. "We're losing!"
"I can't breathe!" Lavanya gasped dramatically. "I need air!"
"Die then! Sanjay's already planning our funeral!" Joshitha yelled, still gripping her seat like it was a lifeboat.
Rahul shot through the traffic, cutting through just as the light turned red for us.
"Shit!" Sanjay cursed, slamming the brakes. The car jolted to a halt, and everyone lurched forward.
"Great! I owe my dad money, and now I'm gonna owe Rahul too!" Sanjay groaned.
"I told you not to do this, you idiot!" Deepika scolded, glaring daggers at Sanjay.
I glanced at the traffic light, ticking down slower than I had ever seen before. We were sitting ducks.
"Turn the car around and take the hillside road!" I shouted, an idea lighting up in my mind.
"Hell no! I'm terrible with hills!" Sanjay shook his head.
"Switch seats with me!" I ordered.
Sanjay barely hesitated before sliding over. I jumped into the driver's seat, gripping the wheel like it was my car.
