Dear Readers,

On October 7, 2024, we lost a truly respected professor, Architect PRS Sivakumar. He was not just an exceptional architect but also a remarkable teacher. We were all amazed by his enthusiasm for architecture, even at over 65 years of age. His passion never aged.

He served as our design chair for two years during my college days. Despite being a visiting faculty member, the contributions he made were immense. I still remember staying back until 6 PM after regular classes, just to get his valuable design feedback.

Some of my designs were unconventional and deviated from standard architectural styles. While many of my professors were not supportive of these unconventional forms, he constantly encouraged me to pursue my ideas. Even though I received low marks from other professors, I felt a sense of accomplishment knowing I had taken on the challenge of solving those difficult designs.

During my master’s degree, I faced a challenging time where I struggled to gain support for my research topic. I reached out to him, and he generously provided me with content and the motivation to continue. His guidance led to my research earning me a gold medal.

When I heard the news of PRS sir’s passing, I found it difficult to accept. Many students shared heartfelt messages, expressing their admiration and gratitude for him.

Currently, I am on a career break and had been hoping to seek his advice on my future plans. Unfortunately, he left us too soon.

He touched the lives of so many students. He never discouraged anyone from their design choices, always believing that architecture is subjective and that we should design for ourselves, not merely to please a jury panel.

One day, I aspire to be a teacher like him—a teacher with profound knowledge who guides students through their unique journeys. An architect and a mentor who will be remembered for his humility, wisdom, and youthful spirit.

Rest in peace, Sir.

Dear readers, if you feel grateful to any of your professors, take the time to let them know before it’s too late. If you have such wonderful teachers in your life, appreciate them. If you’d like to share your own stories about your professors or teachers, please drop them in the comments. I look forward to reading them.

Yours,
The Faded White
