"Acts of love for me are leaps of bravery." — Anna White
YOKO
Someone might as well crack open her skull with how terrible it feels.
She massages her temple, but the IV drip restrains her movement.
"Ah, fuck."
She sits upright with a groan, bracing herself with shaking hands.
Since when did she become this weak?
Yoko can't help but curse again.
The seemingly spacious room she's in isn't helping, either. The white lights ahead floods the room with a blinding light that she wants to shield her eyes.
She's in a hospital?
Right.
Yoko curses internally, remembering what happened before she faints.
It was Big's soft snores that stop Yoko's thoughts.
Big's wide frame is in a fetal position on one of the couch.
She removes her drip, grabs the crutch on her bedside and pulls the blanket to cover Big.
How long was she out?
As Big snuggles closer to his fluffy cover, Yoko looks for her phone but couldn't find it.
Does Marissa still has her phone?
Yoko scans the flowers on the bedside table and reads the cards.
'Wake up now! I've got lots to tell you!' One of the card says. She recognized the handwriting belonged to Marissa.
'If you don't wake up soon, I'll break your bones, I swear!' Ice's chicken-like scribble says. It makes her chuckle, which she suppresses when Big stirs on his sleep.
'I'm sorry.' One of the card says.
Yoko knew this handwriting too.
Faye.
Yoko ignores the sudden dizziness and leaves her room.
The corridor is empty, saved from a lone man sitting on a chair.
He looks familiar.
"Mr. Bunmi?"
"Oh." The old man grunts and stands upon seeing her. "You're awake," the old man added with a smile.
Yoko reaches out to help him up.
"What are you doing here? Umm, why didn't you come in?"
The old man's eyes crinkles. "I don't want to bother you."
"But —."
"Are you alright?"
The old man's warmth makes her smile. "Yes. Umm, how's Faye?"
Instead of answering, Mr. Bunmi gently holds her arm. "Come on."
She didn't know she's holding her breath until the old man leads her to one of the hospital's rooftop garden.
It's already nighttime and just the sight of the night sky makes her relax even for a bit.
The old man loosens her hold before saying. "Faye is so worried. I'm glad you're alright, dear."
Worried? Yoko's the one who should be worried. Faye got stabbed, for goodness' sake!
Before she can even thank the old man, he's already leaving.
