FAYE
"Keep a meter away," Faye whispers to herself as she walks towards One City Center.
Don't look at her with pity.
She sighs, pulls out the shades dangling from her pocket and wears it. Its black tint makes the gloomy sky even darker.
Don't be too friendly, and more importantly, don't give her compliments.
Faye replaced Yoko's last condition. From 'don't fall in love' to don't give her boss compliments. Because the former is unlikely. She's not saying it's impossible, but —.
Faye rearranged her black suit.
Whatever she's thinking doesn't matter.
She's been chanting Yoko's conditions for a month now after the incident in Yoko's home. So far, Faye kept her distance and shut her mouth around her boss.
While Yoko keeps to herself and stays in her office most of the time.
From what Faye observed, sober Ms. Apasra differs from a drunk one, that Faye wonders if Yoko even remembered whatever happened while she was drunk.
She reached the lobby full of thought when Ms. Chayaporn called her.
"Ms. Peraya, Ms. Lloyd is in the parking lot waiting for you."
"Oh, right! Thank you, Janice."
How come she forgets they are going to visit the site today? Faye even spends the evening reading about safety hazards on site.
Though it wouldn't matter; she realized she was no match for a falling I-beam if it comes to that.
Marissa hardly notices her as she emerges from the basement lift. The young woman is busy tapping on her phone.
"Good morning. Did you wait long?"
"Hi Faye. I just got here. Let's go?"
Faye offered to drive. She's buckling her seatbelt when she notices something.
"Where's Ms. Apasra?"
She scans the backseat and then the parking lot before checking her watch. It's past seven and aside from Ms. Apasra's car that they're currently in, there are no other vehicles in sight.
"Yoko and Big had breakfast today. He will take Yoko to the site. Shall we?"
Beside her, Marissa remains busy. As she focuses on the road, the young woman is fiddling with her folder.
"I've brought you a reflective vest, hard hat and safety shoes. I guessed the sizes. I hope it fits."
"Thank you."
"Shit!"
With Marissa's exclaim, Faye can't help but pull over.
"What is it? Are you alright?"
Marissa hits her own forehead. "I forgot to bring Yoko's."
The young woman looks back at the crossing where they just passed through.
"Weren't there any spares on site?"
"Even if there is, Yoko wouldn't just wear anything unless it's new."
"Should we go back?"
Marissa checks her wristwatch. "We would be late," she said with a sigh. "I'll figure it out there."
