Chapter 7: The Girlfriend (Part 2)

FAYE

"Relax," Ice said when Faye fiddles with her suit once more. Faye cannot deny how uncomfortable she is with a crowd like this. Not to mention how far away Yoko is.

Her boss is busy roaming around, pausing at every table where a number of guests stand and chat.

The blinking purple lights aren't helping either.

What if Yoko trips on the monstrosity of wires beneath the grey carpet? Or what if one of the masked servers bumps into her?

Why are the servers masked, anyway?

But the greater horror, Faye realized, is how come she cares for the woman more than she should.

"Hey." Ice caught her attention by pulling her sleeve. "Yoko will be fine. She has done this countless of times. Besides, Marissa's with her."

Faye hardly sees the younger woman. When she spotted Marissa's blue dress beside Yoko's grey one, she calmed down a little.

"Wine?" Ice offered the half filled goblet of sparkling drink which Faye politely declined.

"I don't drink while on duty."

"Right. Sorry."

A pair of men greets them as they pass. One of the men though stopped by to ask for Faye's name.

Faye shifted uncomfortably.

Thankfully, Ice came to her aid. "I'm afraid this beautiful woman is taken."

"By whom?" The man dares ask.

Faye holds her laugh as Ice points to herself.

Once the men are gone, she lets herself chuckle.

"I hate men's guts most of the time, you know?" Ice said and Faye couldn't agree more.

"Though I can't blame them for admiring you. I mean —."

Ice pats her shoulder before smiling proudly. Faye's white suit is the doctor's idea after all.

"You're gorgeous. You might as well walk on that platform, you know."

"Thank you. So are you, doc."

Ice suddenly hooks her arm on hers. "Come on," she said before pointing at a nearby snack bar. "I want to taste everything in there."

Faye already saw the rehearsals yesterday and yet, it didn't give justice to how beautiful the dresses that are being showcased in the event.

The set production and lighting give it justice, too. And when Earn finally walks on the runway, every attention is on hers. The actress truly knows how to command the room with her presence.

"So, you've met one of the crazy ex, huh?" Ice said.

The woman smirks at her confused face before pointing at Earn.

"Uh, yes. One of the crazy ex?"

Ice hums before drinking her wine.

"Ummm, how many exes are we talking about?"

The doctor shrugs. "I already lost count a year ago."

Is it true then? The rumor that her boss is a playgirl?

But Faye can't judge Yoko like that. She hardly knows the woman.

Faye focuses on Earn at the stage. "Do I need to look out for her?"

"Well, as far as I know, she's not a threat. But I must say it will be better not to leave her with Yoko alone."

Faye takes note of that.
