FAYE
When her watch beeps, Faye turns it off and checks the time. “It’s lunchtime already?”
Faye heads back to the lobby. Janice catches her attention with a wave.
“Found her yet?”
The bodyguard wipes her forehead before shaking her head while the receptionist scratches hers.
“That’s weird. I’m sure I saw her earlier.”
Faye sigh. “I searched the pavilion and the Secret Garden, too. Where else could she be? I should feed the kittens quickly and look for her again.”
“Oh, here.” Janice brings out the cat food that Faye bought quite a while ago. “Did you know Ms. Apasra is feeding the strays since you’ve been gone?”
After saying that, they shared a knowing look.
As far as Faye knows, her boss doesn’t like dirty things, let alone places. She has to rub her eyes twice when she saw Yoko sitting on a curb playing and feeding the stray kittens.
“Ice! Finish your food!”
Faye looks around to find where the doctor was. But Ice is not there. It didn’t take long, though, and she realized that her boss was talking to one of the kittens.
While the two strays are eating, Ice, the cat, is busy playing with its tail.
Yoko rubs its belly, picks it, and places the kitten in front of one of the disposable trays.
Faye must have made a sound as Ice turns her way. The cat crosses the street and runs towards her.
Faye puts down the pack of cat food she’s carrying to pick up the kitten. “Hi buddy. Miss me?”
The cat licks her arm. “I guess that’s a yes.”
From the opposite alley, she can feel Yoko’s gaze.
Faye clears her throat, picks the cat food while carrying Ice on the other, before joining her boss.
“I — uh, we’ve been looking everywhere for you.” She puts down the kittens to join its siblings before sitting next to Yoko.
“I’m planning to come back once they’re finished eating, actually.”
“Oh.” Faye scratches her chin.
“About what happened earlier —.”
“When you drink my coffee?”
Yoko can’t help but smirk. “No. I mean, at the conference room. You shouldn’t have witnessed that.”
Her boss is a bit fierce, sure. Perhaps not just a bit, but Faye is sure she only wants what’s best for the company.
“All I saw is a leader doing all the best she can for her company. You’re great, actually.”
Yoko raises an eyebrow. “There you go, running those sweet lips of yours again.”
Faye covers her mouth and stares at her boss, wide-eyed.
The young woman only chuckles at her antics.
When she’s certain that Yoko won’t make a move, Faye lowers her hand.
“It’s already lunchtime. What do you want to eat?”
Yoko looks at her for a while. Her boss doesn’t look as serious as earlier. If anything, Yoko looks tired.
The young woman picks one of the kittens, who’s done eating and places it on her lap. Her hand gently strokes its orange striped fur. “Can we stay here for a little longer?”
