ROHAN

When we reached her house, I found out it was not hers.

It was Kritika Bhabhi's house.

I did not immediately ask why was she staying here. After all I have always known that they are like sisters.

Kshitij’s mother had just left before we entered, and Bhabhi was still not here. I greeted aunty, who talked to me very sweetly.

Then Sayesha came and knocked on the door, grabbing my attention. She nodded once, looking at me and I stood up and walked to her after giving aunty a wide smile who returned it back to me.

“Where is your sweetheart?” I asked eagerly.

Finally, she paused at a door, glancing back at me, almost as if she was second-guessing herself. But then she opened it and stepped inside, motioning for me to follow.

The room was small, cozy, with pastel walls, toys and books were scattered around.

My eyes landed on a little girl sitting on the floor, engrossed in coloring something with an intensity that reminded me of Sayesha.

She was tiny, with big, curious eyes and the same stubborn pout that Sayesha wears so well. She looked up as we entered, her gaze shifting from Sayesha to me, assessing, curious, like she was trying to figure out who I am and why I’m here.

“This is Anyesha,” Sayesha said softly, her voice warm and affectionate in a way I’d never heard before.

She knelt beside the little girl, brushing a stray lock of hair away from her face, and my chest tightened at the sight. They were so alike, it was impossible not to make the connection.

I was left with nothing but to just stand there, completely thrown, watching as Sayesha interacted with her in a way that screamed unconditional love.

I felt a strange mix of emotions—confusion, disbelief, and something that felt suspiciously like jealousy.

Is this why Sayesha never talks about her personal life? She’s been raising a kid this whole time? A kid who, from the looks of it, has inherited all of Sayesha’s fire and spirit. I didn’t see this coming. Not at all. And it stings, the realization that there’s this whole side of Sayesha I know nothing about, a world she’s kept hidden from me!

“She’s b-beautiful,” I managed to say, my voice rough, as if speaking through the shock of this revelation.

My mind was racing, trying to piece everything together. “I didn’t... I didn’t know you had a d-daughter.” The spell of daughter on my tongue tasted so bitter. Her daughter.

Sayesha’s eyes widened for a moment, a flicker of surprise crossing her face. She glanced at Anyesha, who was still busy coloring, and I could almost see the wheels turning in her mind.

“Yeah, well, you never asked,” she said smoothly. She leaned down, and placed a kiss on her daughter's head, and the little girl looked up, beaming at her with pure adoration.

Sayesha turned back to me, her expression feigning seriousness. “She is my little bundle of joy.”

My stomach dropped. So, I was right? My eyes darted between them, searching for any clue that she was messing with me, but Sayesha’s poker face is flawless.

She looked at Anyesha with this affectionate, motherly gaze and Anyesha flashed me a smile.

Sayesha continued, her voice sweet. “It’s been tough, raising her all on my own, but you know me—I manage.” She sighed, and I just stood there, stunned, my mind racing.
