Love and Loss

PHOENIX STOOD next to Kate and Tyler as they all looked at the tornado slowly approaching them. Hearing a rattle behind her, Phoenix turned to see a pop-up gazebo flying towards them. She placed a hand behind Kate's head and another behind Tyler's and pulled them both down, narrowly dodging it.

The three of them ran forwards, standing in the middle of the intersection surrounded by food stalls and market stalls. "Guys! Tyler! Tyler! Shelters are all full!" Dexter bellowed over the wind. "Theatre! Get everyone there!" Phoenix yelled and Dexter nodded, running off to help more people.

They all ran around, instructing people where to go and pushing some people towards the movie theatre. Just as Phoenix was literally pulling someone out of their car and towards the movie theatre, the tram started screeching as it approached other people. "RUN!" Phoenix screamed at the man and he took off running towards the movie theatre.

"Tyler!" Phoenix yelled, running towards him as the tram got closer. "NO!" she screamed as the tram started tilting. Tyler reacted too late and the tram collapsed almost on top of him, trapping him. He let out a yell of pain, his leg trapped underneath a lot of rubble and Kate ran up to him, trying to pull it off of him.

"Phoenix, help me!" Kate yelled out as she tried to lift, but the brunette woman did not appear. A little bit further down the road, Phoenix lay underneath part of the tram that had broken off, completely trapped and silently screaming.

Her eyes were squeezed shut out of the sheer pain of her entire lower body being trapped, which is why she almost screamed in fear when someone grabbed hold of her. Her eyes snapped open and she saw Javi trying to lift it off of her. "Javi?!" she coughed. "Leave! Leave me! Tyler's stuck!" she screamed.

"What?!" Javi yelled. "Tyler's stuck! Please, you gotta help him!" she screamed again. "I'm not leaving you!" Javi yelled at her. "Yes, you are! Javi, please! He's everything to me! I can get out, just help him! Help Kate!" Phoenix begged and Javi yelled in frustration before standing up and running towards Kate and Tyler.

Phoenix let out a sob before she pushed up as hard as she could. By some miracle, the tram piece actually started shifting, and she managed to push herself backwards ever so slightly, freeing one of her legs. She took a deep breath before pulling her other leg out, feeling something slice through her skin.

She whimpered, seeing blood pumping out of her shin, but she ignored it and got to her feet, trying to get out of the way of the water tower that was starting to topple over. She could hear Tyler screaming her name and she hobbled even faster just as the water tower collapsed, flooding the street and sending her rolling down the road.

She got back up, not seeing Tyler or the others anywhere, but what she did see was a woman trapped underneath some rubble from the tram crash. "Oh, god" Phoenix whispered, going over to the woman as quickly as she could.

She froze when she recognised the woman to be her mother, and her heart practically stopped when she saw the sharp piece of metal sticking out of her chest.

"Mom?" Phoenix whimpered, checking to see if she was still alive. She let out a sob when she couldn't feel a pulse and she looked up, seeing Kate and Javi helping Tyler into the movie theatre. Tyler forced Kate to stop by gripping onto the window frame and he turned around, seeing Phoenix.

"Nix! Come on!" Tyler screamed out and Phoenix started running as best as she could towards the doors. "Come on! Come on!" Javi started screaming too as pieces of metal and rubble started flying around.

Phoenix was running as fast as she could considering only one of her legs really worked, and just as she thought she was going to make it, a large part of the tram blew off and smashed into her.
