White Light

In the midst of chaos
A white light shines
Small enough not to be noticed
But big enough to be seen

As the blows struck me
As I fight to live
As the darkness tries to consume me
I see it

At first it was insignificant
But as I look closely
I feel the hope
I could be saved

I cling to it
Not wanting to let go
Of the glimmer of goodness
That might just be what I need

It's nothing like I've ever seen before
Shining so brightly
Tempting, Tempting me to take a step
And let it grab me

Just grab me
And lead me away
Out of this darkness
This pain and hurt

To finally be free
Leave all of the suffering behind
And take the path
Of what should have been

But I can't
The Darkness had already claimed me
Chaining me to its walls
Leaving me helpless

The white light shines
Mocking me
Mocking me of all the things
That I can never have
