Marshall's POV

The scene outside the MTV Music Awards was the usual circus—fans screaming, lights flashing—but the real tension was beside me. Blair's grip on my arm was tight, like she was barely holding it together. Ever since the news about our fertility struggles and surrogacy got out, everything had changed. Some of my fans had crossed the line, tearing into her, calling her a "gold digger" and worse. It wasn't just the media anymore, and I knew it was taking a toll on her.

"You good?" I asked quietly, trying to gauge her mood.

Blair didn't even look at me, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, I'm fantastic, Marshall. Love having random strangers act like they know my life better than I do."

Her words were sharp, but beneath the sarcasm, I could hear the exhaustion. She'd been trying to keep it together, but I could see the cracks. The constant whispers, the judgment, the insults—especially from people who thought they knew me—were cutting deeper than she let on.

"Let it go," I muttered, knowing how impossible that was. "They don't know anything about you."

Blair let out a bitter laugh. "Yeah? Well, they're not calling you a gold digger. They're not questioning whether you belong in your own fucking relationship."

Before I could respond, a voice from the crowd, sharp and cruel, cut through the noise.

"Blair! What's it like being nothing but a gold digger? Bet you love spending his money, huh? Can't even give him what he really wants."

Blair stopped dead, her whole body stiffening. Her grip on my arm tightened until I thought she might break skin. My blood went cold for a second before rage surged through me. I turned, fists clenching, but Blair was already moving. She ripped off her sunglasses, her eyes locking on the woman who'd spoken.

"What the fuck did you just say?" Her voice was low, dangerous. The crowd around us hushed.

The woman didn't back down, a smug smile spreading across her face. "Oh, you heard me. Must be real nice living off his money. What else are you good for? You can't even give him kids. You're just a pretty face with nothing to offer."

Blair's fists clenched, her whole body trembling with anger. "You don't know shit about me. You're just another jealous bitch who can't stand the fact that he chose me over anyone else."

The woman crossed her arms, that same smug look plastered on her face. "Jealous? Of you?" She laughed, but it was hollow. "Nah, I just feel sorry for him. He could've had someone better. All you are is a gold digger playing house."

I could feel Blair's rage building, and I wasn't far behind. I stepped forward, my voice cutting through the tension. "You better shut your fuckin' mouth before you regret every word."

The woman faltered, her bravado slipping for a second, but then she lifted her chin, defiant. "What? It's not like I'm the only one thinking it. Everyone knows what she is. Just along for the ride, right?"

I took another step, fists clenched. "You don't know a damn thing about her. She's got more strength than you could ever dream of, so don't stand there and act like you know shit."

Blair, still seething, stepped in closer. Her voice was low but steady, her eyes blazing with fury. "You think you can stand here and tear me down? You think your words mean anything to me? You'll never be half the woman I am, so go crawl back to whatever pathetic life you came from before you really piss me off."

She flipped the woman off, her hand trembling, and then yanked me toward the entrance. The crowd fell silent, and we walked through like nothing had happened, but I could still feel the weight of their stares.

Inside, Blair was still fuming, her breathing shallow and quick. "Fucking vultures," she muttered. "They think they can say whatever they want just because they follow you."

"They don't know you," I said, my own anger still simmering. "They don't know us. They don't get to judge."

Blair let out another bitter laugh, but I could hear the hurt behind it. "They don't care. To them, I'm just some gold digger who got lucky. No matter what I do, it's never going to be enough."

Her voice cracked, and the knot in my chest tightened. I pulled her closer, my arms wrapping around her protectively. "You don't deserve any of this, Blair," I muttered. "They don't know what we've been through. They don't know shit."

She stopped, turning to face me, her eyes still blazing with anger but softened by exhaustion. "We can't keep doing this, Marshall. We can't keep pretending like this isn't breaking me. I need to know—are you with me on this or not?"

Her words hit me hard. I had been on the fence, trying to protect her, but I realized now I was only making things worse.

"I've been thinking about it," I said quietly. "About us. About everything."

Blair didn't say anything, just stared at me, waiting for something real.

"I'm scared," I admitted, the words thick in my throat. "Scared of what this'll do to us if it doesn't work. Scared of what it'll do to you."

Her eyes softened for a moment, but she stayed guarded. "I'm scared too, but we can't keep standing still. We have to move forward."

I nodded, my heart pounding. The waiting was over. I had to decide.

"We'll talk to the specialist," I said, more certain now. "We'll get every detail. Every risk. But I'm in, Blair. If this is what you want, we'll do it."

Her eyes lit up with a flicker of hope, but she was still cautious. She didn't want to get ahead of herself, but I could see the excitement building.

"About fucking time," she muttered, a grin tugging at her lips. "I was starting to think you'd leave me hanging forever."

I grinned, pulling her close, my lips brushing her ear. "You know me. Gotta keep you guessing."

Blair smiled, the tension in her body starting to melt away. "Well, don't keep me guessing too long, Mathers. My patience is wearing thin."

We stood there for a moment, the noise outside fading as the weight between us lifted. For the first time in weeks, it felt like we were moving forward—together.

"Together?" she asked, her voice softer but still fierce.

"Together," I confirmed.

And with that, we walked forward, ready to face whatever came next.
