The door creaks open, revealing the judge, I can't be bothered to remember her name, to be honest. Jennifer? Jenna? Something with a J. She steps in and takes in the surroundings. She looks lost.  I look down at the paper and continue my business. She takes a seat across me. I shift in my seat uncomfortably. Am I supposed to say something or??? God Maddison, the day I need her She decides to have a night shift. I clear my throat and manage to get a small voice.

"Can.. I get you anything?" I ask my voice raspy for some reason.

"No, thank you." She says gently, observing the office. As she writes down notes, I can't help but notice she has ruby red nails. They look good. I avert my gaze away to not get caught. I notice she's slightly has her hand clutching her stomach.

Last time I checked, that meant 2 things. 1 she's pregnant. I check her ring finger. Empty. Means she isn't married, so there's no way she's pregnant. 2 she's on her period. That might be it. I reach for the phone on my desk, dialing the front desk.

"Hello, Doctor Noah here. Yes. Could I get a ginger tea. Thanks." I look back at the paperwork of the patient. I staple the papers together. A few minutes later, the ginger tea arrives. She places it on my desk and leaves. As I hear the door click, I push the cup towards the judge. She looks up confused.

"That's for you. It'll help with the cramps." I say, looking up, and for the first time, I see her  blue eyes matching her blonde her. I can't lie. She's an attractive one. She hesitates.

"Look, I don't know what you heard about me or what you think of me, but trust me, if you don't drink it, the cramps will get worse. So, to save us both times, listen to me. I'm a doctor. And drink." As she lifts the cup to her lips, I can't help but notice her wrists. They're way to Skelton like. Way too fragile. She's thin. It's like she's really thin. She takes a sip and places it down.

"Could I ask a few questions?" She asks. I look up, clearing my throat.

"Yeah, of course. Go ahead."

"The surgery took place a month ago correct?" I nod in response.

"March 3, yes." She nods and writes it down quickly.

"Could I see the operation room?" She asks. I stand up and gesture towards the door. I walk out, and she walks behind me. Her petite figure. shorter than me. Walking behind me. I lead her towards the emergency room. As we get to the sliding doors, I reach for my ID and scan it on the sensor of the door. I step aside, letting the judge step in first. She walks in, and I follow behind her. I stand to the side, and she inspects the tools and the room.

"She broke her foot." She begins, "where did you do the surgery?" I gulp. This sounds awful, but it's the truth.

"On the foot." I say softly. She nods, like she got what she needed.

"So You admit it?" She asks. My eyes widen in confusion.

"Have we even seen the patient herself, or was it just the mom? What if she's Faking it? Just to get money, huh? I didn't do anything wrong. Trust wuo you want judge but don't accuse me of something I clearly didn't do. The goddamn surgery happened a month ago." I snap, the judge looks at me and takes down notes.

"Aggresive. Takes it to the heart." She says while writing down. I scoff.

"I'm sorry." I say softly. I look down.

"Apologies way too much." She says out loud what she writes down.

"What the?" If she doesn't want to me to say sorry, what the hell do I do? She's confusing. I see a smile on her face. "You're doing it on purpose." She chuckles.

"Okay, I'm sorry. Do you have a surgery coming up soon?" She asks, I look up and nod.

"Next week, yes. Why?" I ask skeptical

"I'll come to watch." She says her voice sharp like there's no time for arguing.

"Yeah, of course. You can. I mean..it's your job. If course you can. Yeah, you can." I slap myself mentally for blabbering. She nods, I can tell she thinks I'm wired. I mean, there's that. I am so she isn't wrong. "Sorry, what's your name?" I ask, cringing. I hate this. I didn't have to ask now. I just look stupid. I already am, but no, I'm even more stupid.

"Jamie." She says gently. Jamie. Her name is Jamie. It has a ring to it. I like it.

"Jamie." I repeat. "Nice name." I blurt out before thinking.

"Thanks." She says. Does she ever smile? I mean, I heard her chuckle, but I don't see a smile. Who cares? I clear my throat.

~~~~~~~
I exit the hospital, Jamie beside me, we head to our cars. Her car is a white Mercedes. Coincidently, the cars are parked right beside each other. I walk to my BMW and click the key to turn on the car. I climb in and start the engine. I take off my doctors coat, now just wearing a blue blouse, the sleeves rolled up. I look out the window to see Jamie's car roaring. The engine looks dead. Without thinking, I climb out of my car and walk towards hers.
"Need help?" I ask, placing my hands on either side of her car window. She huffs.
"Yes, please." She says.
"Could you open up the hood?" I ask. She looks confused.
"How do you do that?" She says. I reach for the button, my arm right in front of her, my bicep brushing her face.
"There." I say as the hood pops up. I walk over to the hood and lift it open and begin inspecting. The car plugs need to be changed. I walk over to her again.
"So the car plugs need to be changed." I say.
"How long will that take?" She asks
"If I call them, they'll take about an hour to get here, and to go back is another hour, and then to fix it is about 30 minutes." She sighs, "if you have somewhere to go, I could take you." I blurt out. She looks at me.
"What about my car?" She asks.
"I'll have my brother look after it. He has a night shift today."
"Okay." She says, I step back to allow her to open the door and climb out. She grabs her bag and climbs out.
