Since that day, our relationship has developed. We've grown closer and closer. More than before. He doesn't leave my or Harry's side. We wake up together side by side. We cook together. We eat together. We're like a family.
Harry and I decide to head to surprise him on his night shift. Let's hope he isn't busy. We enter the hospital, and I walk over to the front desk.
"Hello. Is Dr Noah available?" I ask.
"Let me check for you." She types away on her computer. She nods. "Available, yes." She says.
I walk to Noah's office. Harry holding my hand walking quickly. I knock softly. I wait until a soft 'come in' is heard. I slowly open the door. As soon as I open the door, he looks up and smiles without warning. Harry, let's go of my hand and runs to Noah.
"Hello to you two." He scoops Harry on his lap. "What a pleasant surprise." He says, gesturing for me to take a seat across him. I walk over and take a seat.
He looks at Harry bouncing on lap. We both watched Harry grow up, and now he's 2. I can't believe it. My little baby grew up.
"Do you know what's coming up?" He says softly.
"My birthday." I say softly. He nods.
"I'm taking you out. No arguments." He says, his voice sharp and determined.
"Don't you have work?" I ask. He shakes his head
"I canceled it. Come on, there's no way I'm working on my girls' day." I smile at his words, feeling my cheeks flush red.
________
I put on my earnings wearing a red long sleeve shirt with jeans. My blonde hair cascading down my shoulders. He told me to be casual. He went out of the house a couple of hours ago to drop off Harry at Andrew's house.
As I'm putting on my shoes, I hear the doorbell ring. I walk over to the door and swing it open to see him towering over me holding a bouquet of roses.
"Happy birthday, judge." That nickname, I swear. He keeps calling me that. Not that im complaining.
I reach out and take the roses. "Thank you." I sniff them the aroma filling the whole room.
"Ready to go?" He asks, extending his hand for me to take. I grab my purse and then take his hand. Intertwining them together.
The drive there is silence the only sound between us is gracie Abram blasting through the speakers. I look out the window wondering where we're heading.
We finally reach. He pulls the car into the parking lot and steps put. Running to my side, opening the door for me. He takes my hand and leads me into the enormous building. Then it hits me. He took me to the biggest bookstore in New York.
"Noah." I say in awe.
"I noticed when you filled your bookshelves. I noticed that there's space, and we can't have that. So I bring you to the bookstore. You're favorite."
"I don't wanna spend money here." I say.
"Who said it's your money?" He reaches for his back pocket, pulling out his wallet, then pulling out his credit card.
"This credit card. I made it just for you. It has no limits. So enjoy yourself today." He kisses my forehead.
We walk around the bookstore. He holds the books I picked out without complaining. I kind of feel bad. I don't wanna spend money like this. I picked a selection of books. Romance. Mystery. And many more.
We reach the cashier, and she checks out all the books. "44 books. Now that's a haul." She sags as she scans the last book. "Enjoy." He hands us the 7 bags containing the books.
We walk to his car holding the bags. He insisted that I carry one bag and he carries the rest. "That was 101 dollars." I break the silence.
"Really? I thought it's expensive." I chuckle. He can't be serious. I look at him in confusion and disbelief.
"What? Honey, you're dating a doctor. Our salary is out if the box. You can't guess for your life."
"Hm. I wonder how mych it is."
"You have to consider that we brought an unlimited credit card. Now that's expensive."
He places the bags in the backseat and pulls the seatbelt over them.
"Noah," I chuckle. "They're not kids."
"Oh, I know, it's just we can't have your books damaged. Before you even got to read them." He says confidently. He buckles them up and holds open the passenger door for me. I climb in.
He walks over to the driver's seat and climbs in. He turns the engine on and starts backing away from the parking lot.
I take the credit card out and pass it to him.
"Take it." He says. My eyes widen in confusion.
"What?" I ask, confused.
"It's yours." He says without hesitation.
"Noah, I can-" he cuts me off before even getting to finish the sentence.
"Jamie. Yes, you can." He looks me deep into my eyes. His blue eyes piercing through my own blue eyes. His eyes like the shade of the ocean.
________
We're cuddling on the couch. Harry playing with his toys on the floor. I'm reading and Noah watching a basketball match.
"Did you see that?!" Noah stands up erruptly pointing at the shot Theo made. I chuckle and nod.
"It's crazy." I agree. Harry begins cheering. He's really starting to look like Noah even though he isn't Noah. The actions they both do. It's like Harry's Noah's son.
