This house is humongous. 8 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms. A cinema, gym, 2 offices, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. This would be every person’s dream, only problem. It’s empty, yep, no furniture, Kea said the furniture should be delivered in the coming days because, the agreement he had with the Realtor, was that we would move in 2 weeks. He wanted me to see the house first hand while it’s empty.
“Where are we actually?” I ask.
“Morningside” he says.
“As in Sandton, Morningside” I say.
He nods, “I actually wanted to get a place in Waterkloof, but then I remembered that you are kinda sick and tired of Pretoria, I mean, when I say let’s go to Motion you always suggest Braam, even though you hate Braam” he says.
“I don’t hate, Braam” I say, “Or Pretoria, it’s just that, I have gotten used to it, you know, plus ever since we got the Gallery. I haven’t really had a reason to go that side”. We are still walking around, the rooms here are huge, they are all living room size, the Master is fucking amazing, a huge bathtub, an even larger shower, I think 10 people could fit in there and there be enough room to walk around. He’s standing behind me as I walk around admiring the house. Did I mention it has an underground garage. AHHHHHHHH. It parks about 10 cars, so we have 8 spots to fill in. I’m sure he Is really happy about that.
“Missus Mahlatji” I look back and he smiles at me.
I smile back. “Papa Mahlatji” he starts giggling and moving side to side. He walks towards me, and kisses me.Tonight we are having dinner at the Du Toit’s to announce our engagement, the pregnancy is still new News, so we gonna keep that on Ice until our first doctors appoint in 3 weeks. When we reach the door we are immediately met with Imani and Vuno hugging us.
“Where have yall been hiding?” asks Imani.
“How have you guys been?” I ask. They welcome us and we walk into the house with Kea’s mentor who has his foot on his table watching TV. Immediately I am dragged into the Kitchen, they are so supportive, I wonder if they are like this with the others, I never heard Lindy mention coming over to the Du Toit’s. I explain to them the new theme of our September show and how it is heritage, how we have been scouring the whole of South Africa for a painting that will be our main feature piece and that’s really hard, our last Main feature was auctioned off for R50K; to a seasoned artist that’s nothing but to an up and comer that’s rent for 2 years sorted at least. James and Kea are sitting watching TV, “We bought a house” I say, “Technically he did”.
“OHH where?” asks Imani excited, as Vuno stirs some stew on the stove. It seems she’s making idombolo as well.
“Morningside” I say.
“UHHHH” they gasp.
“How much was it?” asks Vuno.
“I don’t know, ask your son over there” I say.
“Kea, how much was the house you bought?” asks Imani.
“Eyy, if I say the Price you are all gonna beat me up” he says.
“How many bedrooms?” asks his mentor.
“8” Kea replies.
“He probably spent over R30million” says his mentor looking back at us, then back at the TV, “Nice work son” he shakes his hand. It might be the Hormones, but I wanna throw something at him, but let me keep my cool.We are having dinner, “We actually have an announcement to make” I say.
They all stop and look at us, “Apart from us buying a house…” I show them my finger. They all look surprised then look at Kea, “Is that why you were making us find out what ring size she is?” asks Imani. Kea smiles and they all scream and run towards me. We hug and jump up and down.
“You know Saint, you have always been like a father to me…” Kea says after we are seated again, “I would love for you to negotiate my Lobola” OH MY DAYS.
James looks at him confused and clears his throat, “Let’s go talk outside” the two stand up and walk outside.
“So when did he propose?” asks Imani.
“He did it on my birthday, he left early and made me think he forgot my birthday, then when we drove to our new house, he proposed there even gave me a heartfelt speech” I say, “It even has underground parking” I really love that detail in the house.
“WHAT!” they shout. We continue talking as Kea and James are standing at the pool.
