After about 25 minutes, I finally arrived at my room. I had asked some staff members I saw in the hallway for directions, and they explained that the rooms were in another building, so I had to walk quite a bit. In the dorm building, I saw a few students who also skipped the ceremony, but fortunately, my room was empty. While researching the school, I read that they separate girls and boys here, which I agree with, but I also found out that we can get in trouble for being in a room assigned to the opposite gender. I understand why, but isn’t that a bit too much?

The room is incredibly spacious. When I was researching, I was shocked to find out that there are six beds in each room. I imagined it would feel cramped and lack privacy, but it actually seems pretty cool. Now that I’m here, I see that not all the beds are in use. In my room, for example, only three beds look like they’ve been claimed, so I’m probably the fourth girl to move in. The room has two floors, with bathrooms and closets on the second.

I noticed my suitcase had already been delivered to the room, so I picked a bed and started customizing it along with my study table to suit my style. Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching the door, followed by the sound of two girls laughing loudly. Curious, I moved closer to the door to eavesdrop on what was happening.

"Shh, someone might see us here," one of them whispered.

"They’re all at the ceremony. We can have some fun," the other girl replied. "All your friends are there, right?"

"They are, but they could come back anytime. Anyone could see you here. We need to be careful," the first girl answered nervously.

"They won’t! Let’s get inside," the other girl said. The footsteps grew louder, and I realized they were about to enter the room.

Instinctively, I ran to my bed and hid underneath it. The door creaked open, and I saw two pairs of shoes come closer. "Lock the door, Sarah," I heard one of them say, as she sat down on my bed. "Now, come here."

I heard the other girl run over, and soon the sound of kissing and giggling filled the room. I immediately regretted hiding. I pulled out my phone and started texting my friends about what was happening. They suggested I make ghost noises to scare them off, but honestly, I was just growing sick of their over-the-top sweetness. I thought about coming out and ruining their little make-out session, but the thought of the awkwardness stopped me. I just prayed someone would knock on the door soon.

"Jennie, be serious. What’s going on with you and Judy?" one of the girls asked, snapping me back to attention. I instantly recognized the name—it was the same girl I met at the entrance of the school.

"Why are you asking?" Jennie replied.

"Because if you like her, I’m going to have to try really hard to stop thinking about you," the other girl said, and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at the cheesy conversation.

"And if I tell you I have nothing to do with her?" Jennie teased.

"Well, I wouldn’t be surprised. She’s too innocent for you," the girl said, her voice hinting at a secret.

"Innocent?" Jennie questioned.

"Yeah, she is. She’s a virgin," the girl replied.

I froze. There’s nothing wrong with being a virgin, but it’s not exactly something you announce to everyone. So, this girl must be Judy’s friend, but she’s definitely not a close one. If it’s the same Judy I met earlier, well, considering the kind of person she seems to be, I guess she deserves these kinds of friends.

"Is she?" Jennie laughed. "And you?"

"Figure it out," the girl said, standing up and running toward the second floor, with Jennie chasing after her.

Once they disappeared into the bathroom, I took the chance to crawl out from under the bed and escape the room. As soon as I stepped outside, I came face to face with an employee.

"Hey, you’re supposed to be at the welcome ceremony," she said, glancing at her watch. "All the students are required to be there."

"Really? I didn’t know. I’m a freshman," I said, raising my hands in a mock surrender.

"No excuses. Go now," she ordered, pointing in the direction of the ceremony.

"I think there are also two girls who don’t know about the ceremony," I said, planning to ruin the girls' make-out session in my room. "They’re in there, in the bathroom, I guess," I added, as I walked toward the ceremony, watching the woman enter my room to catch them.
