Jennie

Today, everything is going wrong. My day already started off badly when I realized this morning that my vacation is over. And now, this damn supervisor is ruining my fuck.

"what the hell is happening in there?" The woman bangs hard on the bathroom door.

"I told you to lock the door," I whisper to Sarah.

"I did lock it," she replies, looking in the mirror and fixing her hair and clothes.

"Then how the hell did she get in?" I ask, doing the same.

"I know there's someone in there! Open this door right now. You need to go to the welcome ceremony," the woman shouts, knocking on the door so intensely that, for a moment, I think she might break it down.

"Let's just go. She could get the keys and open it if she really wanted to," I say, leading us to the door. This isn't my first time failing to hide in the bathroom. I open the door and look up at the tall woman standing there, hands on her hips, looking furious.

"Jennie Kim. Why am I not surprised?" She gives me a once-over, then looks at Sarah. "You guys never learn," she says, rubbing her temples.

Sarah storms past me, leaving the bathroom, clearly angry. She grabs her jacket from the bed and, without looking back, exits the room.

"Am I late, Ms. Miller?" I ask, flashing a smile at the woman, but she doesn't react. She simply points to the door. If I were to translate this gesture, it would be 'Get the fuck out and go to the damn ceremony'.

I glance at the mirror one last time and walk out of the room. Ms. Miller follows me to the auditorium, as if she's making sure I don't try to escape.

"You're like my shadow," I say when we finally arrive. She huffs and, thankfully, leaves me alone.

I could leave right now, but I have no idea where my girl is, so it's not worth it. I find a seat and spend my time scanning the crowd, looking for attractive girls among the newcomers. After a few minutes of checking out everybody, someone covers my eyes from behind.

"Guess who?" I hear a familiar voice. She removes her hands, and I turn around.

"You don't know how much I missed you, Soph!" I hug Sophia tightly. I barely saw her during the vacation because she traveled to Spain. "I have so much to tell you. Guess who I'm hooking up with?"

"Wait, what?" She glances around, then grabs my arm. "Hold on, let's get out of here first." She pulls me through the crowd, and we slip out of the auditorium. "Now, tell me—who's your latest victim?"

"Hey, watch your mouth," I say, nudging her playfully. "The lucky girl I'm hooking up with is Sarah Angelle. Did you know?"

Sophia's jaw drops. "I thought you were hooking up with Judy! Sarah's that girl with the fake blonde hair, right?" I nod. "Wow, she's so..." She pauses, searching for the right words. "Different from you."

"Why does everyone want me to date Judy? I never wanted that, and I don't think she likes me that way either," I reply.

"Well, you two would be the most perfect and popular couple in school," she shrugs. "And she's hot as hell, you can't deny that." I suddenly remember what Sarah said to me about Judy. The fact that Judy's a virgin didn't surprise me; I know her well enough to understand she has high standards when choosing a partner, so she rarely shows interest in anyone. But who knows what she does when no one's watching?

I'm about to reply to Sophia when I hear a deep voice calling my name. I turn around and see the last two people I want to run into—my mother and father.

"Why are you here? Did something happen?" I ask, worried.

"We came to take you. We're going to London. The ambassador wants a meeting with your father. Go pack your suitcase," my mother says calmly.

"Now?" I ask, not believing my ears. "What about school? I can't leave now!" I say, knowing this trip to London would be a nightmare. I'd have to deal with my father's political stuff, which is the most boring thing in the world, and the only person I know there is my brother. My father is always comparing me to him—basically, it's hell.

"I already spoke with the principal," my father says, glancing at his watch.

"I don't want to go," I reply, frustration boiling up inside me.

"This isn't up for discussion. I've already wasted my time coming here in person to pick you up. You're coming with us, and that's final. Now, go pack your suitcase," he snaps.

Fuming with anger, I turn around and start walking away, pulling Sophia, who has been silently beside me the whole time, along by her arm.

"I can't believe you have to leave," she says sadly. "He said you have no choice."

"We'll see about that, Soph," I mutter through clenched teeth.
