The smoke finally cleared, and after a few chaotic minutes, the commotion began to subside. The students speculated about what had happened, trying to figure out who could have been responsible. Jennie was convinced that Richard was involved, though she lacked any concrete evidence. As the discussion about the incident dragged on, the bus driver and teachers reassured everyone that it was safe to continue. The group boarded the bus in silence, with the teachers promising to find out who was behind the incident.
The rest of the ride back was tense, with each person lost in their thoughts, unable to sleep.
When they arrived at the club later that night, it felt like stepping into another world. The tension from earlier seemed to melt away as they were welcomed by the club’s luxurious atmosphere. The manicured gardens and the shimmering pool reflected the moonlight. Exhausted from the journey and deprived of sleep, everyone headed straight to their rooms, eager for the comfort of sleep.
The next morning at breakfast, Jennie sat at a small table in the corner with Sophia, who was nibbling on a piece of cake while listening to Jennie vent. “I still think it was Richard,” Jennie muttered, her eyes narrowing as she glanced toward the entrance of the cafeteria. “I’m pretty sure, actually. But I won’t accuse him without proof. He’ll regret crossing me.” Sophia raised an eyebrow, a sly smile playing at the corners of her lips. “Do you already have something devious in mind, or are you still planning your revenge?”
Before Jennie could respond, her phone vibrated on the table, displaying her father’s name. She sighed, already dreading the awkward conversation. “I have to take this,” she muttered, standing up and moving to a quieter spot. “Hi, Dad,” she answered, trying to keep her tone neutral.
“I’ve already arranged everything for your community service,” her father’s voice came through, firm and authoritative. “The driver will be there at 9 a.m. to take you wherever you need to go.” Jennie rolled her eyes, barely able to contain her frustration. This community service was part of her punishment for the car accident—better than jail time, she supposed.
“Dad, I was planning on going this afternoon. I’m at the club, and I’d like to spend a bit more time with the girls before I—”
“You’re not on vacation, Jennie,” her father interrupted sharply. “That’s part of the deal. Maybe next time, you’ll think twice before you run someone over, so you can enjoy time with your friends.” His words hit hard, and Jennie gritted her teeth, struggling to control her temper.
“Fine, I’ll go,” she replied, her voice tight. “But don’t let anyone find out about this.”
“Of course, keeping this a secret is your biggest concern,” he retorted with a touch of sarcasm. “Just do what you’re supposed to do.”
Jennie ended the call abruptly, slipping her phone back into her pocket.
Frustration gnawed at her—this wasn’t how she had imagined spending her morning. But there was no escaping it. She would have to complete her community service and keep it hidden from the others. Returning to the cafeteria, she forced a smile, already planning how she could slip away unnoticed.
The atmosphere at the club remained calm, but Jennie was far from relaxed. Her frustration at having to work weighed heavily on her, and Sophia’s constant talk about her suspicions of Richard only added to her irritation. Meanwhile, Richard seemed blissfully unaware of any of it, his attention entirely focused on Amber.
As usual, Richard didn’t miss an opportunity to flirt, and today, Amber was the object of his charm. They sat by the pool, where the sun reflected off the water, as Richard, with his easy smile and smooth demeanor, tried to win her over.
