When Phantom opened her eyes it was dark out.

She blinked twice and waited for her eyes to adjust before getting up.

She stretched casually before stiffening and slowly looking around cautiously.

She could hear faint noises in the distance.

She slowly wove in and out of the trees following the noises until a slight light caught her eye.

She moved towards the light and soon found herself standing at the edge of the village again.

The noise she had heard was the sound of two people arguing with each other quietly.

One of them was Astrid,  the blonde hired girl.

Phantom sat down and watched them curiously wondering why they were arguing.

The person Astrid was arguing with was a brown haired young man.   When Phantom looked at him closer she realized he was missing a leg.

He smelled quite peculiar.  Although Astrid
Smelled of her deadly nadder this man smelled of an unfamiliar dragon.  She had no knowledge of what dragon he rode and that made him both interesting and dangerous.

She was curious enough to consider approaching the humans.

Although the blonde hadn't harmed her yet she was uncertain of the man's intentions.  And if it came down to the blonde probably didn't care that much.

However curiosity got the best of Phantom and she slowly rose to her feet and began walking closer.

She stopped when Astrid spotted her and eyed the humans warily.

Astrid nudged the man and nodded towards her.

Phantom spread her frills to hear what Astrid was saying

"-the one I was telling you about earlier Hiccup."

Phantom cocked her head slightly so the man's name was Hiccup.  How odd these Vikings were with names.

The man,  hiccup took a step forward towards Phantom causing her to growl slightly.

"Hiccup..." Astrid murmured concerned

Hiccup took another step and Phantom growled louder

Hiccup continued to ignore her warnings and took another step.

Phantom's growl turned into a hiss.

Hiccup took two steps forward and Phantoms hiss turned into a high pitched aggressive shriek.  Her wings spread and she lunged forward mouth open.

Hiccup fell backwards with a yell and Astrid stepped forward with a gasp.

However Phantoms jaws never connected with the boys flesh.   Not that she intended on actually hurting Hiccup.  She just wanted him to back off.

None of that mattered though because a large black blur and launched itself out of nowhere slamming into Phantoms side.

She quickly flailed around and bit the first thing she saw.

Her teeth were met with black scales and whatever was attacking her growled in pain.

For a minute she was completely unaware of her surroundings focused instead on defeating whatever threat that had attacked her.   Until the voices of the humans penetrated the fog

"Toothless!"

"Bad dragons! Stop it!"

She shoved whatever it was she was fighting away from her and it returned to the humans.

She realized a great deal of people from the village had now gathered and were watching her warily.

Her tail lashed and she glared at them.

Her gaze turned towards Hiccup and Astrid.  In front of them was the black dragon she had been fighting.

She glared at the black dragon.  It seemed familiar.  She recognized it as the smell from Hiccups clothes but it wasn't just that.

There was something else familiar about it.

A flash of memory darted through her head.

A scream.  And a black dragon flying up through the clouds.

The day everything had gone wrong... there had been a dragon she'd never seen before.
A black dragon with two humans on its back.

She began to lose herself in her memories only to be pulled out when Valka emerged from the crowd.

"What is going on here?"  Valka questioned

Hiccup sighed and took a step towards Valka and explained

"I wanted to help her acclimate to humans.  I should have gone about it differently though.  She panicked and Toothless tried to protect me."

Valka frowned and moved towards Phantom

Phantom lashed her tail and fluttered her wings nervously glancing between the sky and Valka.

Valka made a soothing sound and held out her hands and Phantom crooned apologetically

Valka continued to make soothing noises until she stood with her hand resting on Phantoms side.

Phantom, although nervous, felt slightly better with the kind stormcutter rider near her.

She stayed still for a few moments while Valka stroked her scales and then Phantom backed away.

She let out another crooning sound before jumping into the air and wobbling back towards her spot in the forest.
