Chapter 37: An Overwhelming Decision
Jennie sat in her apartment, the weight of the doctor's words still pressing down on her. Pregnant. She absentmindedly rubbed her hand over her stomach, which was now undeniably rounder. A life was growing inside her, and yet she had no idea what to do with this knowledge.
Her thoughts immediately turned to Taehyung. He was back in Korea, dealing with the chaos that Jisoo had caused at their company, and she was here, in Russia, with the biggest news of her life. How could she even begin to tell him? Would this child change anything, or would it only complicate things further?
Jennie sighed deeply, running her fingers through her hair as she stared out the window. The snow outside was falling softly, blanketing the streets in white. It was so peaceful, yet inside, Jennie's heart and mind were anything but.
Jimin had stayed with her for hours after they returned from the hospital, making sure she was okay, but Jennie had asked him to leave eventually. She needed space to think. She had no idea what her next move would be, and the last thing she wanted was to drag someone else into this mess.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed on the table. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw Taehyung's name flashing on the screen. For a brief moment, she considered ignoring it—there was too much to say, and she didn’t know if she had the strength to say any of it. But her thumb moved on its own, and she answered the call.
"Jennie," Taehyung’s voice came through the line, soft but strained. "Are you okay? I’ve been thinking about you nonstop."
Jennie closed her eyes, the sound of his voice both a comfort and a painful reminder of all that had happened between them. "I'm… okay," she lied, her voice quiet. "How’s everything in Korea?"
There was a pause on the other end before Taehyung spoke again. "It’s been hard. Jisoo… she's not in a good place. I had to take her to a therapist, and it’s been… overwhelming. I never wanted things to get this bad."
Jennie’s heart ached at the mention of Jisoo. She didn’t hate her, but the complicated history between the three of them had left scars that were hard to ignore. Taehyung sounded so broken, so guilt-ridden, and Jennie didn’t want to add to his burdens with her own overwhelming news. Not yet.
"You did the right thing by helping her, Taehyung," Jennie said softly, trying to comfort him, even though her own emotions were in turmoil.
"I’m trying, but every time I think I’m getting through to her, something pulls me back. And all I can think about is you… how I left you alone there. I never should have gone back. I should have stayed with you, Jennie. I miss you so much it hurts."
Jennie bit her lip, her emotions threatening to spill over. She wanted to tell him everything—to scream into the phone that she was carrying his child, that their love had created something precious. But the fear of how he would react kept her silent.
"Taehyung…" she started, her voice shaky. "You don’t need to worry about me. I’m okay. You need to focus on fixing things with Jisoo. That’s what’s important right now."
"Is it?" Taehyung asked, his voice full of anguish. "Is that really what’s important? Because all I can think about is how I left the woman I love, and now you’re miles away. I feel like I’m losing you, Jennie."
Jennie squeezed her eyes shut, trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall. She wanted to tell him she felt the same, that she was scared too, but how could she say any of that with the news she was holding inside?
"You're not losing me, Taehyung," she whispered. "But right now… maybe we both need time to figure things out. You have so much on your plate with Jisoo and the company. I don’t want to add to your stress."
Taehyung let out a frustrated sigh. "Jennie, please don’t push me away. I need you. I know I made mistakes, but I love you. I’ll come back as soon as I can. I promise."
Jennie’s heart twisted painfully at his words. She loved him too, more than anything, but she was terrified of what the future held. With the baby growing inside her, everything felt so uncertain.
"I need some time, Taehyung," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I need to think."
There was silence on the other end of the line for a moment before Taehyung finally spoke. "Okay. I’ll give you time. But I’m not giving up on us, Jennie. No matter what."
When the call ended, Jennie set the phone down and wrapped her arms around herself. The tears she had been holding back finally spilled over, and she cried quietly into the stillness of the apartment.

Meanwhile, back in Korea, Taehyung stared at his phone, frustration and heartache swirling inside him. He hated being away from Jennie, especially now when everything felt so uncertain. But the situation with Jisoo had become too much to ignore.
Taehyung had been avoiding seeing her after learning the devastating news from her doctor. The thought of Jisoo never being able to have a child weighed heavily on him. As much as he had tried to move on from their relationship, this was something he couldn’t simply walk away from. Jisoo had been a part of his life for so long, and seeing her broken like this left him feeling conflicted.
He knew he had to go and see her, but it was the last thing he wanted to do. The guilt gnawed at him. He had made a choice, but that didn’t erase the years of history he shared with Jisoo, nor did it erase the pain she was going through.
Taking a deep breath, Taehyung made his way to her apartment. When he arrived, Jisoo was sitting by the window, her face pale and devoid of its usual brightness. She looked fragile, and Taehyung’s heart clenched with guilt.
"Jisoo…" he called softly as he stepped inside.
Jisoo didn’t look at him, her gaze fixed on something outside the window. "I know why you’re here," she said, her voice hollow. "You don’t have to pretend like you care, Taehyung."
Taehyung flinched at her words. "I do care, Jisoo. I may not love you the way I used to, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care about you."
Jisoo let out a bitter laugh. "Care? Is that what this is? Because it doesn’t feel like it. You left me for her, Taehyung. You chose Jennie."
Taehyung struggled to find the right words. "I made mistakes, Jisoo. I didn’t handle things the way I should have. But that doesn’t change the fact that you need help, and I want to make sure you’re okay."
Jisoo finally turned to look at him, her eyes filled with pain. "Do you think I can ever be okay after everything? I lost you, and now I can’t even have a child. What do I have left?"
Taehyung’s chest tightened. He walked over and knelt beside her, taking her hand in his. "Jisoo, you’re not alone in this. I’ll help you through it, even if we’re not together anymore. You deserve happiness too."
Jisoo’s expression softened for a moment, but then the sadness returned. "I don’t know if I’ll ever be happy again, Taehyung. Not after everything."
Taehyung stayed with her for a while, holding her hand in silence. The guilt inside him grew heavier with every passing moment, but he knew he couldn’t undo the past. All he could do now was try to make things right in whatever way he could.

Back in Russia, Jennie sat in her apartment, still reeling from the news. She hadn’t told Taehyung yet, and the weight of the secret felt suffocating. Her hand drifted to her stomach once more, her mind filled with uncertainty about the future. How could she bring a child into this world with so much unresolved? How could she tell Taehyung, knowing the mess they were both in?
Jimin knocked on her door, and Jennie quickly wiped away her tears before opening it.
"Jennie, how are you feeling?" Jimin asked, concern etched on his face.
Jennie offered a weak smile. "I’m… trying to figure things out."
Jimin looked at her closely, his eyes soft with understanding. "You don’t have to do this alone, Jennie. I’m here for you, no matter what."
Jennie nodded, but her heart felt heavier than ever. She didn’t know how she would navigate the storm ahead, but one thing was certain—everything was about to change, and she wasn’t sure she was ready for it.
