Chapter 38 : Torn Hearts, Unspoken Truths

Jennie sat in silence, her hands resting protectively over her growing belly. She still hadn’t processed everything. Four months pregnant, and she was only just finding out. It felt surreal, like something out of a dream, or perhaps a nightmare. How could she have missed it? How could she not have known?

Her thoughts swirled in chaos. The only thing grounding her was the faint movements in her stomach, subtle but unmistakable. It was Taehyung’s child, and yet he was thousands of miles away, tangled in a web of complications she wasn’t sure he could ever escape from.

A gentle knock interrupted her thoughts. Jimin, as always, was checking in on her. He had been her constant through this turmoil, but even he didn’t know the full extent of what Jennie was going through.

"Jennie?" Jimin’s voice was soft as he peeked around the door. "How are you feeling today? Can I get you anything?"

Jennie shook her head, trying to offer him a reassuring smile. "I’m okay, Jimin. Just… a little tired."

Jimin hesitated before stepping into the room. He had noticed a shift in her recently. She was more withdrawn, more distant, and while he respected her need for space, it was hard not to worry. "You’ve been tired a lot lately. Are you sure everything’s okay?"

Jennie looked up at him, her heart heavy. She knew Jimin cared, and she appreciated his concern, but the weight of her secret was suffocating. She couldn’t keep it from him forever, not when he was the one who had been there for her when she had no one else.

"I… I went to the doctor," Jennie began, her voice trembling slightly. "I found out something."

Jimin frowned, concern etching deeper into his features. "What is it? Is something wrong?"

Jennie took a deep breath, her hand instinctively moving to her belly again. "I’m pregnant, Jimin. Four months."

The room fell into a heavy silence. Jimin stared at her, his mind racing to process the news. Pregnant? Jennie had been sick for weeks, but this… this was something he hadn’t seen coming. His thoughts immediately turned to Taehyung, and the complicated mess the two of them were already in.

"Jennie," Jimin said softly, his voice laced with shock and concern, "does Taehyung know?"

Jennie shook her head, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "No. I haven’t told him yet. He’s back in Korea, dealing with Jisoo and the company. I don’t even know how to tell him. Everything is such a mess."

Jimin sat down next to her, his heart aching for her. "You don’t have to do this alone, Jennie. You know that, right? Whatever happens, I’m here for you."

Jennie smiled weakly at him, appreciating his support more than he could ever know. But she also knew that no matter how much he cared, this wasn’t Jimin’s responsibility. This was between her and Taehyung, and the complicated reality of their situation.

"I know," she whispered. "I just… I need time to figure things out. And I need to tell Taehyung. He deserves to know."

Jimin nodded, though a part of him felt a sharp pang of sadness at the mention of Taehyung. He had been falling for Jennie, though he would never say it out loud. He knew she only had eyes for Taehyung, and no matter how much he wished things were different, he wasn’t the one she was waiting for.

Back in Korea

Taehyung sat across from the therapist’s office, his heart heavy with guilt and sorrow. He had brought Jisoo here, hoping that the doctor could help her, but the news he had received was like a punch to the gut.

"Jisoo’s mental state has deteriorated significantly," the doctor had explained. "The stress, the emotional trauma, it’s all taken a toll on her. And the long-term use of contraceptives has caused irreparable damage to her reproductive system. I’m afraid she won’t be able to have children."

Taehyung’s world had crumbled at those words. Despite everything that had happened between him and Jisoo, he never wished this on her. She had always dreamed of being a mother, and now, because of everything she had put herself through, that dream was gone.

He sat in silence as the words replayed in his mind. How had things gotten so bad? How had they reached this point, where nothing seemed salvageable?

Jisoo sat next to him, her face pale and drained of all hope. She hadn’t spoken much since they left the doctor’s office, and Taehyung didn’t know what to say to her. What could he say? That he was sorry? That he didn’t mean for any of this to happen? Words felt meaningless now.

"Jisoo…" Taehyung began hesitantly, but she cut him off with a hollow laugh.

"Don’t," she said, her voice cold. "Don’t pretend like you care about me anymore, Taehyung. You chose Jennie. You made your decision."

"It’s not that simple," Taehyung replied, his voice pained. "I didn’t want this. I didn’t want to hurt you."

"But you did," Jisoo snapped, her eyes flashing with anger. "You hurt me in every possible way. And now… now I can’t even have a child. Do you have any idea what that feels like? To know that your body will never give you the one thing you’ve always wanted?"

Taehyung’s heart shattered at her words. He had never seen her so broken, so defeated. He reached out to her, but Jisoo recoiled, shaking her head.

"Don’t touch me," she whispered. "Just… don’t."

Taehyung pulled his hand back, his heart heavy with regret. "I’m so sorry, Jisoo. I never meant for any of this to happen."

Jisoo laughed bitterly. "Well, it did. And now I’m the one who has to live with it."

Back in Russia

As the days passed, Jennie’s mind remained a whirlwind of emotions. She had been avoiding Taehyung’s calls, unsure of how to tell him the truth. She couldn’t even fathom what his reaction would be, especially with everything he was already dealing with back in Korea.

She leaned against the window, staring out at the snowy streets of Moscow, her mind drifting to Taehyung. She missed him terribly, but the distance between them felt insurmountable now. Could they ever find their way back to each other with so much standing in their way?

Her thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. Jimin entered the room, a concerned look on his face. He had been giving her space, but he could tell something was weighing heavily on her.

"You’ve been quiet lately," Jimin said gently. "Is everything okay?"

Jennie offered him a weak smile, her heart heavy with the secret she was still keeping. "I’m just… trying to figure things out. There’s a lot going on."

Jimin nodded, sitting down beside her. "I know. But you don’t have to go through this alone, Jennie. Whatever happens, I’m here for you."

Jennie looked at him, her heart swelling with gratitude. Jimin had been her rock through all of this, but she knew that telling him the truth would change everything. She wasn’t ready for that yet.

"I know," she whispered. "And I appreciate that more than you know."

Jimin smiled softly, his hand resting on hers for just a moment before he stood up. "I’ll leave you to rest. But if you need anything, I’m just a call away."

Jennie watched him go, her heart heavy with the weight of all the things left unsaid. She had to tell Taehyung soon. She couldn’t keep this secret any longer, no matter how scared she was of what it would mean for their future.

---

As night fell, Jennie curled up in bed, her thoughts racing. She placed her hand on her growing belly, feeling the subtle movements of the life inside her. A tear slipped down her cheek as she whispered into the darkness.

"Taehyung, I wish you were here."
