—5 years after the marriage

Cal went to an after party. She was invited by her co-worker.

As she walked in through the big glass doors, there stood Mia, singing her heart out in the karaoke machine in the corner.

She sang her heart out while holding the chin of her beloved husband.

Cal walked straight, avoiding Mia at all costs.

While Cal was eating, the co-worker who invited her to the party asked her to sing.

"Cal! Dali na!" Her co-worker said, dragging Cal to the karaoke booth.

As Cal stood there awkwardly, her eyes met Mia's.

Both eyes widen.

"A-ahh... anong kakantahin, pia?" Cal asked.

"Your choice." The co-worker answered.

Cal nodded, grabbing the microphone and entering the karaoke version of The ones we once loved by Ben and Ben.

"Saw you singing your song the other day, It's been a long time since your eyes lit up that way.
I felt the guilt build up as I looked back how things went wrong. Did I have to sweep in and scar you?"

Cal sang, staring at the screen, avoiding Mia's glance.

The other guests clapping for Cal's singing.

"Five years, we shared the bittersweetness of our youth. Then we broke up, because sometimes it is the best thing to do. Did it ever cross your mind that maybe you hurt me too? But I'm not taking it against you."

Cal continued singing, a small smile forming within her mouth.

Mia watched as Cal sing gracefully. Just like how she sang to Mia every night to sleep.

"Since the beginning, I never wanted anything
But to see you reach your dreams, I knew that you just wanted me. But I had dreams of my own, and I just couldn't let them go."

Cal sang, thinking "but you were my biggest dream."

"So, I apologize for coming into your life, just to break your heart to pieces, and then leave you in the night. And I tried my best to stay by your side
But who knew the rolling seasons would reveal that sometimes, we aren't meant to be the one?
So, goodbye to the ones we once loved."

As Cal said the last phrase, she looked directly at Mia's way.

They both shared eye contact. As Cal sang, her eyes never left Mia's.

"When things got heavy, and you expected more from me. I tried to be there to take away your tears, but I didn't notice that I was chipping away
at pieces of myself 'til there was nothing left to give. I didn't even want to live"

Remembering all the pain and traumas she went through, just to experience love with her beloved.

There were days where she wanted to end it all, yet she stayed here. Because she wanted to watch Mia achieve her dreams.

"But I apologize for coming into your life, just to break your heart to pieces, and then leave you in the night. And I tried my best to stay by your side
But who knew the rolling seasons would reveal that sometimes. We aren't meant to be the one?
So, goodbye to the ones we once loved."

"I realized it wasn't anyone's fault at all, It's just that I wasn't built to build you up when you fall.
Maybe we were meant to be a lesson to each other. But I wish you well, and I'm sorry (I'm sorry)"

Cal said. Maybe we really did just serve as a lesson to eachother. To not love like how we loved. Cal thought.

As going onto the last stanza, she sang fully this time.

"Oh, I apologize for coming into your life, Just to break your heart to pieces, and then leave you in the night. And I tried my best to stay by your side
But who knew the rolling seasons would reveal that sometimes We aren't meant to be the one?
So, goodbye to the ones, I wasn't meant to be the one. So, goodbye to the one I once loved."

Cal said the last line, her lips forming a smile towards Mia.

Everybody clapped from Cal's outstanding singing, but only felt Mia's eyes attached to her.

As Cal was saying farewell to her co-worker, she was about to walk outside when Mia grabbed Cal's hand.

"Teka, Cal." She said, gasping for air.

Cal looked at her with confusion.

"Ano yun... Mia?" Cal asked, curiously, knowing the answer to her question.

"I'm sorry." Mia said.

"For what?" Cal asked, clenching her fist and trying to hold back her tears.

"Sorry for bringing pain into your life." Mia answered.

"You didn't, Mia." Cal replied, caressing Mia's hand.

"Come on, Cal. I'm not that dumb. Jordyn and Syd told me everything. I'm sorry."
Mia said, her eyes full of tears.

"The damage has been done, Mia. And it's a wound that's been healed." Cal replied, trying to wipe away her tears.

"We were just supposed to serve as a lesson for eachother, Mia. We both knew that nothing would happen between us even if we tried." Cal added, patting Mia's back.

Mia looked up at Cal. "You're still the same 'selfless' Cal. Come on Cal, you knew i loved you so much."

"I knew that, yet you were forced to love someone who's not me. If you think it hurt you... it hurt me too." Cal replied.

"I can't be your friend, can't be your lover, can't be the reason we hold back eachother from falling inlove... with somebody other than me." Cal added, her face reflecting a smile with tears.

"You are the dream, Mia. Just not one i could reach." Cal stated, then putting on her helmet and ride on her motorcycle.

As she left, Mia could only watched as she leave, tears filled her eyes as a wound that was sealed reopened.
