"So. This is another artwork submitted by one of the students here," Professor Gu showed a digital artwork on the slideshow. They were asked to submit a digital art work with the word spark as the theme of their artwork last week. But their lecturer didn't tell them what the artwork will be used for, she just told them it's their homework.
But seven days later, today, their artworks are displayed in front of the class and the lecture will pick some students to give their commentary on the artwork that is being displayed.
"So. I'll call the name. Make a short commentary about it," Professor Gu said before she looked at the list of the names of the students. "Let's go with Park Jihoon,"
Jihoon slowly stood up and looked at the artwork being displayed. Jihoon is actually worried if his word will hurt the one who submitted the artwork. Their lecturer will tell which student submitted the artwork too after his commentary. It makes Jihoon more nervous.
"I would say messy," Jihoon said. The lecture hall is filled with whispers and gasps from the students. Professor Gu looked at the slideshow and looked back at Jihoon.
"How exactly messy is it?" Professor Gu asked.
"They seemed to use multiple techniques to achieve the final product. But if we can zoom it closer. It's quite a mess. The layers were used to cover every small mistake if they did instead of just using layers for layering," Jihoon said.
"That's a good observation you had there. You see. This piece is a beautiful one. Personally, it grasped the word spark very well. But Student Park Jihoon noticed the layerings that were used to cover the mistake. It will be hard to point out to be honest. And is there anything else?" Professor Gu asked.
"The use of the colors seems trying too hard to push the spark theme. It's a little messy because they can use just a few pallets to achieve the same result or even better," Jihoon said.
"Okay. Nice comment there. Usage of the colors. More color used doesn't necessarily mean bad or good. But for this piece especially, the lesser usage of colors might make the piece even more lively," Professor Gu said. "This piece here is submitted by Student Choi Hyunsuk,"
Jihoon's eyes widened as he heard that name. He turned to Hyunsuk's direction who looked like he was totally not satisfied with his commentary earlier. Having their lecturer agree with his commentary, makes Jihoon feel good. He raised his hand.
"Yes, Student Park Jihoon?" Professor Gu asked.
"May I add some more?"
"Sure," Professor Gu allowed.
"For this piece, it would be great if the creator used only a few techniques that he has already mastered instead of throwing all the techniques in the piece so it won't be as messy," Jihoon said.
"Techniques. Good one. We will discuss this in our next class. About what we should use and what not. And the techniques that everyone in this class should have mastered before graduating," Professor Gu said. "Alright. Next artwork,"
Jihoon couldn't help but to mentally cheer for his victory against Hyunsuk. It's not even a fight but it's just feeling nice knowing that he can pissed him off educationally.
After the day Hyunsuk stayed over at his place because of the rain, Jihoon has been extremely cautious in everything. He unconsciously tried not to pissed Hyunsuk off even though the guy is not even around. He has tried so hard not to cross paths with Hyunsuk for weeks. But the sight of him always makes Jihoon annoyed for some reason. Maybe because he's jealous of Hyunsuk's player nature. Maybe because he is just annoyed at how different they are in status and stuff because Hyunsuk is way above him in every single thing.
