When we arrive at the headquarters, our first goal is to reach the control rooms. There are hundreds of other people in this building who have no idea that Hydra has nested itself in the very foundation of S.H.I.E.L.D., and we need every single one of them to bring the whole thing down. I had actually expected that all the entrances would be heavily guarded, but when we arrive at the back of the building, there's exactly one guard. He's wearing a S.T.R.I.K.E. uniform and carrying an M4. Are they really that confident that we wouldn't even try to get in? Slowly, I move out of our cover, making sure to stay out of his line of sight. Attacking someone head-on with a fully automatic weapon would definitely not be the best idea. My heart is now calm, my entire body goes into combat mode. No sweaty hands, no chaotic thoughts, just complete focus on our goal.

"Over here, idiot," I hear Sam call from our hiding spot, and I shake my head. That gives me the chance to attack the guard, who now has his back turned to me. Big mistake. Quickly and almost silently, I rush forward and hit him from behind with a roundhouse kick to the temple before he can even realize what's happening. The force of the blow literally sends him flying to the ground, and his weapon slides out of reach. Only when I'm sure he's truly unconscious do I signal the others to come out of cover.

The hallways leading to the control room are full of S.H.I.E.L.D. employees, but they're mostly just technicians or officers. Even the few S.T.R.I.K.E. soldiers are quickly taken out, and before long, we find ourselves in front of a locked door. I had really expected this to be harder, but with Captain America as a battering ram, this was child's play. You could almost get used to it, but it probably won't stay this easy once we get into the open. I glance down the hallway and admire our work. It's lined with a row of bodies, both dead and unconscious; it's hard to tell who belongs where. In our defense: they tried to stand in our way, and we don't have time to argue.Steve gets ready to break down the door when it suddenly opens. Why not be so kind from the start? Maria and I simultaneously draw our weapons, and everyone obediently raises their hands. "Thanks for opening the door," I say to the one who opened it, flashing my sweetest smile. He tries to smile awkwardly in return but fails miserably. Maria suddenly slams the butt of her pistol into his temple, and he drops unconscious to the floor. Good night. Sam and Steve quickly take care of the others, and then a heavy silence falls over the room, only the faint hum of the computers can be heard. So far, no alarm seems to have been raised, but our presence won't go unnoticed for much longer. We exchange brief glances and then secure all corners of the room—better safe than sorry. Steve approaches the microphone, which is connected to all the speakers in the room. It's time to shed some light on the situation for everyone here. We stand behind Steve, and he glances over his shoulder one last time. "We're proud to have you as Cap," I say with a smile on my lips. Maria and Sam also smile at Steve and nod. "Thanks, guys," he says, and I can practically see him gathering all his strength to do what he's about to do. He takes one more deep breath before he begins. His voice echoes through all the speakers in the building, and I wish the whole world could hear it.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., this is Steve Rogers speaking. You've probably heard a lot about me, Natasha Romanoff, Elora Sue Winter, and Sam Wilson in the last few days. Some of you have been ordered to hunt us. It's time you learned the truth. S.H.I.E.L.D. is not what we thought it was. It was infiltrated by Hydra when it was founded. Alexander Pierce is their leader. S.T.R.I.K.E. and the Inside Crews are part of Hydra as well, and I don't know who else might be, but they're here in the building, maybe standing right next to you. They've almost achieved their goal: total control. They shot Nick Fury, and he won't be the last. If they launch these helicarriers, Hydra will be able to kill anyone who stands in their way, unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot, but the price of freedom is high and it is a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one who does, then so be it, but I bet I'm not."
