Chapter 58
"I didn't know that my mother hated you so much." I turn over him on the bed and say.
The sheets are wrapped around my naked body while Zade remains bare. The curtains are drawn close, covering us from the sun's rays. I prop my head on his chest and look up at him. His eyes narrow to me and he smiles.
"We never really exactly got along well."
"Clearly."
"It wasn't all the time, though. Sometimes it was alright, but we never did like each other. Your mother has a grudge against me and I have one against her." He says as his hand slides down my back.
I raise a brow up at him, "How?"
"Because of you," He glances down at me and sighs. "Your mother took you away from me, not that I blame her for it. But I still dislike her for that and she dislikes me because of what happened between us in the past. We are a lot alike, she and I. She does anything to keep you away from me, just like I will do anything to have you by my side."
"But you did save her life that night, didn't you? You gave her your blood knowing she would die without it." I remind him.
Zade nods, "I did it for you. And it would've been a bit cruel if I had let her die. Though—"
I place my hand over his mouth, knowing well enough where he's heading. "I think that's good enough." I say with a smile and remove my hand.
Just as he opens his mouth to finish, I place my hand over it again and look at him with warning eyes. A groan leaves his throat and he glares at me, so I remove my hand, smiling cheekily.
"You don't know what I'm going to say," He tells me, and I cock a brow up.
"Oh yeah? I'm pretty sure I know what you're going to say."
"You don't."
I laugh at him and turn over him. Our lips meet, softly at first and then I move closer to him. His fingers come to pull onto my hair as he deepens the kiss. I let out a breathy moan and my thighs tighten around his waist. Zade rolls me over and presses me against the mattress. My skin burns under his touch and my lips part but before we can proceed, a knock lands on the door.
I drag myself off the bed while Zade lets out a silent groan.
Grabbing my robe, I put it over my body and walk across the room. My fingers pull onto the doorknob and as I pull it open, Estella stands outside with her hand raised in the air, ready to knock again. Her eyes turn to me, a bit startled at my appearance and then she looks over my shoulder to Zade.
"Good morning, dear," She greets me, lowering her hand. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything and if I did, that's good because there's someone who needs to deal with the district werewolves who'll be arriving in town by noon."
I glance behind at Zade and he gets up from the bed after getting threatening glares from either of us.
"I'll be down in ten." He says, his voice rough.
Estella nods and then looks at me, "What about you?"
"I'm going to be in the shower, but I'll see you in a bit."
"Do you want to have something for food?"
My stomach churns at the mention of food, "Yeah, sure, that would be lovely." I say to her with a smile.
Estella walks away, heading down the stairs while I shut the door and return to the bed. Zade heads into the shower first, taking his time. Meanwhile, I put all the dirty clothes from the past two days into the laundry bins.
It has been two days since my mother visited. I haven't spoken to her yet, but I intend to once Zade leaves. I don't want to talk to her in front of him, knowing he might get tensed or scared. It's best if I talk to her in private, and stay in contact for as long as I can.
Once Zade is gone, I head downstairs to find Estella, but instead, I find Martha, who is sitting alone in the living room. She holds a glass of blood—presumably—in her hand while looking outside the window. There's a grim expression on her face like she's lost in thoughts.
I don't mean to startle her but then again, Martha can sense when someone is near. So, before I can take another step towards her, her gaze turns to me, and a small smile forms on her lips.
"Good morning," She says.
I take the empty spot near her. "Good morning."
Martha glances at me. It looks like she's a little uncomfortable, not with me, but rather with something else. Her hand curls around the glass while she studies me. Her eyes travel around me like she's looking for something and it takes me a moment to understand what it is.
She wants to know if Zade has harmed me.
I quickly try to shift the focus onto something else—anything. "I was wondering about something..." I trail off, and her eyes change immediately.
"Tell me." She says with a smile.
"Well, there was something I was wondering about, and I couldn't really find an answer for it anywhere since it's uncommon. But I really wanted to know if there was a chance of me ever carrying Zade's child?"
