Chapter 66
I press my hand against my neck before sitting up on the couch. My eyes trail Zade as he steps back, farther away from me. Something appears to be terribly wrong and I don't know what it is.
"Zade," I call out his name, and his attention is still lost. "Are you okay?"
He turns away from me. "No, no. I'm not," His voice lowers.
I stand up from the couch and at the same time, I catch a glimpse of my blood on my hand. I look back at him but I don't see much of him. My hand reaches out to his shoulder.
"I can't. I shouldn't." He steps back and brushes his hand over his face.
"Zade—"
He turns around and then I see his eyes filled with hunger, his desire for blood, for me. "You don't get it—"
"I do, I do get it. I want you to be fine and if that means letting you feed from me, then so be it. You're not hurting me, and I'm not scared of you. I'm only worried for you." I tell him, my voice soft.
He stares at me. His eyes are hollow and there's a hint of red in them.
"I want all of it," He breathes, his voice rough. Reaching closer, he grabs my arms and pulls me near to him. My body crashes against his. "When will you get it? I don't want to show any fucking mercy, I want to drain every inch of you dry and I want it all. That's how fucked up I am, that's how much your blood affects me. It's so fucking tempting, and you don't even get it, Aurora. You shouldn't have let me mark you. We shouldn't have completed the mating bond."
I grab his shirt, clutching it tightly. Tears brim my eyes and it's hard to breathe. "You're only saying that because you haven't had anything in days," My voice comes out broken. I blink and a tear falls down my cheek. "If you did, you wouldn't be so—"
He cuts me off, "I don't want anyone's fucking blood, Aurora. I only want yours, I want to feed on you. It's all I can think about, the only thing on my mind, is your blood, is how good it tastes. I want to drink every bit of it, taste you, savor it, and feel you go cold in my arms. That's what I fucking want."
I stare at him, horrified.
My chest heaves, and my breathing becomes shallow. I don't know what to do. it terrifies me to hear him talk like this, to say these things. He's losing himself and all because of me.
I stumble back as he releases me, turning away. His fists clench and his shoulders shake.
All these days I thought he was fine, he was holding himself back, learning control. But I was wrong. He can't. Not when I'm right here, tempting the bloodthirsty beast within him every day and every night. He can't even touch me without the thought of tasting my blood crossing his mind.
The worst part is, that there's nothing I can do about it. Nothing he can do. He can't change.
He will never stop craving my blood, the thirst will always be there, and the urge will always be there. It may be less, maybe more but it will always be there and it will only get worse and worse.
My eyes follow him as he heads over to the doors without saying anything more.
"Zade," I run behind him. "Please, talk to me."
He turns back and the look on his face says everything. "Aurora, please, go to your room."
"I don't want to."
"I can't have this conversation with you right now, okay? Not when I can still taste you on my tongue." His voice raises a little before he leaves the room.
I follow him outside, unable to stop myself from going after him. "Please. I didn't know that you were struggling so much," My breaths came out heavy. "If you'd told me, if you'd let me help you, I would've. We can get through this."
My voice echoes through the dark hallways as I see his shadow nearing the stairs.
He finally stops near the end and turns around. "We can't get through this. It's not just a phase, Aurora. It's who I am. I can't control myself, especially not when I'm around you. You don't get it."
"What am I supposed to get?" My brows tighten, and tears brim my eyes. "That you want to fucking kill me? That you want to watch me go cold in your arms? How should I have ever known that? How should I have ever known that my mate would want to drink every bit of my blood to the point of my death?"
He goes silent and his head hangs low.
"I get that now. I really do, Zade."
Before anything more is said between us, the loud ring of the bell fills the air, startling me. I glance down towards the front door. It's past midnight. Who would come here at this time?
I go down the stairs and find Estella rushing toward the door to open it. My brows furrow. I can't think of anyone who would visit at such a late hour, but when I see who it is, everything changes. My mother.
It's my mother.
What is she doing here?
