THE FAINT SMELL of bare vanilla filled up the pink room inside the golbach home.

and shocker, it was joeys room.

the excitement bubbling inside her as she not only had a date in an hour but her birthday was literally 4 days away.

music plays through her speakers as she ran her hands through her hair.

going to her closet and slipping on her black dress that fell to her thighs and cinched at her waist.

smiling at her reflection. it was her short dark dress with knee high white socks and red ballerina shoes.

she had worn this exact same outfit during their senior sunrise, years ago and once she remembers it she had to wear it for tonight.

hoping that in some funny miracle dex would have remembered that dress faintly and comment about it.

rubbing her hands together she goes to lower the volume up on her speaker and right as she did her door swings open.

"good evening my sweet tulip." colby brock's happy face stood by her door as she clutched her chest in fear.

"good evening my pretty boy." she laughed sitting down on the edge of her bed cross legged.

"you scared me." the girl informed him as she fluffs down her dress while sitting.

"well i'm sorry but your easy to scare." he grins walking up to the bed, hovering.

"that's not my fault." she shot back laying on her back, her arms sprawled out dramatically.

and that's when colby saw it.

that dress, that fucking dress.

it was the same one he saw that morning in may a billion years ago.

the same dress that made the girl shiver to death at the cool air.

the same dress he saw her in and almost forget his own name.

she was wearing that dress.

socks up to her knees, dress sprawled against her thighs, and her hair wrapped around her neck like a choker when she laid down

he looks at down at the girl sprawled down on the bed and saw her at 17.

17 year old josephine lilac was sitting with him in that room, he was staring right at her.

his eyes flickered with the slightest bit of pain at the memory of him not even giving her one complement that day when they were teens.

he remembers how her eyes shone with hope as she stood in front of him and sam as the blonde complemented her shoes.

"thanks sammy!" 17 year old joey giggles with glee as she taps her feet on the floor.

"i bought this new dress just for today." her over excitement at the early morning would be too much if the pair weren't used to it.

"yeah looks nice too." sam had smiled before taking a bite of his bagel.

colby's eyes glance down at her and he almost laughed. she was literally so beautiful that it made his head hurt.

"colby." she calls out so softly that it made him scrunch his face him. was that even her?

"hm?"

"like my dress?" her question came out bland and hoarse as she didn't even offer the smile she gave sam.

yet he still heard that small hint of hope linger for a small kind word come out of his mouth.
