HER HEART POUNDED as the people around her sang happy birthday, the big vanilla cake in her face as she couldn't focus on anything.

except for the tall boy in the singing and happy crowd, except he wasn't happy.

he wasn't smiling, he was brooding, he was sad, mad, pissed off.

the boy she had almost touched lips with less then five minutes ago was the exact reason she couldn't seem to enjoy her birthday.

the heat of the candles in front of her were no match to the heat in the pit of her stomach.

"happy birthday to you!" the end of the song had come and everyone looked at her with big smiles.

ready for her to blow.

but he wasn't looking.

he was staring down at his feet, his fucking feet. how could you not look at someone on their birthday?

her eyes close sadly as she blows onto the lit up candle her heart aching.

opening her eyes softly she was met with clapping and her friends cheers and his stare.

he was staring.

he had looked up and make complete eye contact with her.

it was hard not to smile as he corks his lips up into a smirk.

her wish came true.

after a while of people singing on kaoroke slices of cake in their plates it was now just normal music as everyone was still dancing or loitering around the bar.

joey was dancing.

colby was loitering around the bar.

beer in hand as molly was talking to him, her hands flaring as she spoke passionately.

but in all honesty he wasn't listening, he was trying to find joey in the crowd.

a hint of a sight of those angel wings when he knew she was nothing but the devil.

the devil plays with your mind, makes you think of only them and the terrible dirty thoughts they plant in your mind.

she was the fucking devil.

but oh my god, the hottest one hes ever seen.

mollys high pitch voice was all he could hear and the music cascading every two minutes.

when suddenly the beginning of champagne coast had started playing through the speakers.

his body jolted like he was awoken, his legs had a mind of its own as he stood up instantly.

head and eyes frantically looking to the crowd to find joey, his soft smile on his face.

"colby- what the hell, what's wrong?" molly asks confused at the sudden panic set in.

"it's uh—" he rubs his temples trying to gather his words.

"champagne coast.. you know the song." his points upwards as if talking about the speaks a gulp in his tone.

she shook her head before answering, "never heard of it."

colby's eyes widened and he had to shake his head lightly.

"sorry i just- give me a minute or something." he walks past her not even waiting for her other words.

he didn't know why but he needed to find joey before the song ended.

he needed to see her face and lips as she mouthed the lyrics one last time, how her hips swayed to the beat and her eyes filled with cheekiness.

"jo!" he yells cassie standing talking knowing she would be around.
