Chapter: A Day for Just Us
The morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, gently waking Kiyotaka and Suzune from their peaceful sleep. It was a rare day for them—no school, no urgent responsibilities, and for once, the kids were off at school, leaving them with a whole day to themselves.
Suzune stretched her arms, feeling the warmth of Kiyotaka beside her. She turned to find him already awake, his calm eyes watching her with the faintest hint of a smile on his lips. Despite his usual stoic demeanor, there was a softness in the way he looked at her—a tenderness that she had grown to recognize.
"Good morning," she murmured, her voice still soft from sleep.
"Good morning," he replied, his hand gently brushing a strand of hair away from her face.
For a moment, they simply lay there, enjoying the quiet comfort of each other's presence. It wasn't often that they had moments like this, with the house so quiet and no pressing concerns pulling them away from each other. Suzune shifted closer to him, resting her head on his chest as his arm wrapped around her shoulders.
"What should we do today?" Suzune asked, her voice quiet as she traced small circles on his chest with her fingers.
Kiyotaka paused for a moment, considering. "We don't have anything planned. Maybe... we could just spend the day together. No distractions."
Suzune smiled, her heart warming at the suggestion. "That sounds perfect."
They stayed like that for a while longer, enjoying the rare opportunity to be close without the usual chaos of their lives. Eventually, though, the pull of the day called them out of bed. After getting dressed and having a quick breakfast, they decided to take a walk through the park, enjoying the fresh air and the peacefulness of the morning.
As they strolled along the path, Suzune slipped her hand into Kiyotaka's, lacing her fingers with his. It was a simple gesture, but it spoke volumes—about their closeness, their bond, and the affection that had grown between them over time.
Kiyotaka didn't say anything, but the way he gently squeezed her hand in return was enough. They walked in comfortable silence, the sound of birds chirping and leaves rustling in the breeze filling the air around them. The park was quiet, with only a few people passing by, and for once, it felt like the world had slowed down just for them.
After a while, they found a bench overlooking a small pond. Suzune sat down, pulling Kiyotaka with her. She rested her head on his shoulder, her eyes closing as she let out a contented sigh.
"It's nice to have a day like this," she said softly. "Just the two of us."
Kiyotaka nodded, his thumb gently rubbing the back of her hand. "It is."
They stayed like that for a while, simply enjoying the quiet peace of the moment. Suzune could feel the steady rise and fall of Kiyotaka's chest beneath her head, and it was calming in a way that words couldn't quite capture.
Eventually, Kiyotaka shifted slightly, turning to face her more fully. His hand moved to cup her cheek, and Suzune opened her eyes to meet his gaze. There was something in his expression—something warm and tender that made her heart skip a beat.
Without a word, he leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to her lips. It was soft and slow, filled with a quiet affection that made Suzune's chest tighten in the best possible way. She kissed him back, her hand resting on his chest as their lips moved together in a sweet, unhurried rhythm.
When they finally pulled away, Suzune's cheeks were flushed, and there was a soft smile on her lips. "What was that for?" she asked, her voice teasing but filled with warmth.
Kiyotaka's gaze was steady, but there was a softness in his eyes that only Suzune ever got to see. "For being here with me," he said simply.
Suzune's smile widened, and she leaned in to kiss him again, this time with a little more intensity. Kiyotaka responded, his hand moving to the back of her neck as he deepened the kiss. It wasn't often that they had moments like this—moments where they could simply be together, without any interruptions or distractions.
When they finally pulled apart, Suzune rested her forehead against his, her breath coming a little faster. "I love you," she whispered, the words slipping out before she could stop them.
Kiyotaka's eyes softened even more, and he pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I love you too," he murmured.
It was a rare thing for him to say, but when he did, Suzune knew he meant it with every fiber of his being.
They spent the rest of the morning walking through the park, stopping to sit by the pond and watch the ducks swim by. At one point, Kiyotaka pointed out a particularly playful duckling, and Suzune couldn't help but laugh at how cute it was.
"You're good with kids," Suzune said, her voice light with affection as she watched Kiyotaka's expression soften at the sight of the duckling. "It's no wonder the kids love you so much."
Kiyotaka shrugged, though there was a hint of a smile on his lips. "They're good kids."
Suzune smiled, leaning into his side. "We're lucky to have them."
As the day wore on, they eventually made their way back home. The house was still quiet, with the kids at school for the rest of the day, and for once, it felt like they had the whole world to themselves.
After lunch, they decided to spend the afternoon watching a movie together. Suzune curled up beside Kiyotaka on the couch, her head resting on his chest as they settled in. Kiyotaka wrapped an arm around her, holding her close as they watched the film in comfortable silence.
Halfway through the movie, Suzune shifted slightly, looking up at Kiyotaka with a soft smile. "I'm really happy we got to spend the day together like this."
Kiyotaka glanced down at her, his hand gently brushing through her hair. "Me too."
Suzune's heart swelled with affection, and she leaned up to press a soft kiss to his jawline. "I love you," she whispered again, her voice filled with warmth.
Kiyotaka's arm tightened around her, and he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "I love you too."
For the rest of the afternoon, they stayed like that—curled up together on the couch, enjoying each other's presence in a way that they didn't often get to. There were no interruptions, no responsibilities, just the two of them and the quiet, peaceful love that had grown between them.
By the time evening rolled around, they were both feeling content and relaxed. Suzune smiled as she thought about how rare it was to have a day like this, where they could simply focus on each other without any distractions. It was something she cherished deeply.
As they prepared dinner together, moving around the kitchen in a comfortable rhythm, Suzune couldn't help but feel a deep sense of gratitude. She was grateful for Kiyotaka, for the life they had built together, and for the love that had blossomed between them.
And as they sat down to eat, Suzune reached across the table to take Kiyotaka's hand in hers, squeezing it gently. "Thank you," she said softly, her voice filled with emotion.
Kiyotaka looked at her, his eyes warm and steady. "For what?"
"For today," Suzune said, her voice quiet but full of meaning. "For everything."
Kiyotaka's lips curved into a small smile, and he squeezed her hand in return. "Always."
They finished their meal in comfortable silence, the warmth of their love wrapping around them like a soft blanket. And as the night drew to a close, they curled up together in bed, their arms wrapped around each other as they drifted off to sleep, content in the knowledge that they had each other—today, tomorrow, and always.
