It was an ordinary afternoon when Suzune started to feel a little different. At first, she brushed off the mild nausea and slight fatigue, attributing it to the usual stress of the day. But as the days passed, something in the back of her mind began to nag at her. There was something more to it, something she couldn't quite put her finger on.
Kiyotaka, ever observant, noticed her occasional tiredness and subtle changes in her mood, but he didn't press her about it. He trusted her to come to him when she was ready to talk. It was a few days later, as she sat at their kitchen table, that Suzune finally decided to address the strange feeling she had been experiencing.
"Maybe I should take a test," she thought to herself one evening, her hand subconsciously resting on her abdomen. The idea felt surreal, but there was a flicker of hope within her—hope that something impossible might have happened.
After a quick trip to the pharmacy, Suzune returned home with a pregnancy test. She felt her heart racing as she nervously sat in the bathroom, waiting for the result. It felt like the longest few minutes of her life, and when she finally glanced at the test, her heart nearly stopped.
Two faint lines.
Her hands trembled as she held the test, staring in disbelief. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. "Is this real?" she whispered to herself. She blinked several times, trying to process what was happening. A whirlwind of emotions flooded through her—shock, disbelief, and then... overwhelming joy.
For as long as she could remember, Suzune had believed she could never have children of her own. It was something she had accepted, though it had always left a small hole in her heart. But now, against all odds, she was holding proof of a miracle.
She took a deep breath and walked out of the bathroom, her mind spinning. Kiyotaka was in the living room, reading quietly, as usual. His calm demeanor brought her a sense of comfort, and for a moment, she simply stood there, watching him, trying to find the words.
"Kiyotaka," she called softly, her voice shaky with emotion.
He looked up from his book, his usual composed expression softening when he saw the look on her face. He immediately knew something important had happened.
"What is it, Suzune?" he asked, setting the book aside and standing up.
She walked over to him, her heart pounding in her chest. Her hands still trembled as she reached for his. "I... I took a test," she began, her voice barely above a whisper. "And... I'm pregnant."
For the first time in a long while, Kiyotaka's eyes widened in genuine surprise. He stood still, processing her words. It was rare to see him visibly caught off guard, but this moment was an exception.
"You're... pregnant?" he repeated slowly, as if testing the words himself.
Suzune nodded, tears brimming in her eyes. "Yes. I can't believe it either. I don't know how, but..." Her voice broke, and she let out a small laugh, full of disbelief and joy. "It's a miracle."
Without hesitation, Kiyotaka gently pulled her into his arms, holding her close. For a few moments, neither of them spoke. The reality of the situation settled in between them like a warm, comforting presence.
"I'm so happy for us, Suzune," he whispered into her hair, his voice soft but filled with emotion. He pulled back slightly to look into her eyes, and for a moment, the usual calm mask he wore gave way to a rare, heartfelt smile. "This is a miracle."
Later that evening, they gathered the children in the living room. Aiko, Saya, and Gojo sat on the couch, curious as to why their parents had called a "family meeting." Aiko, as always, was full of energy, while Saya sat quietly beside her, and Gojo, ever composed like his father, observed the room with his usual calm demeanor.
"Why are we having a meeting?" Aiko asked, tilting her head, a playful smile on her face. "Are we getting another dog?"
Kiyotaka and Suzune exchanged a glance, a small smile playing on Suzune's lips. She knelt down in front of the children, her heart racing with excitement. She reached for Kiyotaka's hand for support, and together, they prepared to share the news.
"There's something we want to tell you," Suzune began, her voice gentle. She took a deep breath, and then, with a warm smile, she said, "You're going to have a baby brother or sister."
For a moment, there was silence. The children stared at her, wide-eyed, trying to process the information. Aiko was the first to react.
"Wait, what?!" she exclaimed, her eyes growing even bigger. "You mean... we're going to have a baby?"
Suzune nodded, her smile growing wider. "Yes, Aiko. I'm pregnant."
Aiko's face lit up with pure joy. She jumped off the couch, running toward Suzune and hugging her tightly. "That's amazing! I'm going to be a big sister!" She squealed in excitement, her energy filling the room.
Saya, who had been quiet up until now, smiled softly, her eyes shining with happiness. "I'm happy for you, Mama," she said, her voice gentle as she walked over to Suzune and placed her hand on her mother's belly. "Does the baby know we're here?"
Suzune's heart melted at Saya's words, and she hugged her tightly. "I'm sure the baby will know how much love is waiting for them."
Gojo, who had been observing quietly, finally spoke up, his voice calm but filled with curiosity. "How does this happen?" he asked, his brow furrowed in thought.
Kiyotaka chuckled softly at his son's question, ruffling his hair. "It's complicated, Gojo. But it's a special moment for us."
Gojo nodded, accepting his father's answer. Though he didn't fully understand the science behind it, he could see the happiness in his parents' eyes, and that was enough for him.
Aiko, meanwhile, was bouncing with excitement. "This is going to be so much fun! I'll help take care of the baby! I'll teach them everything I know!"
"You'll have to be gentle with the baby, Aiko," Suzune said with a soft laugh. "Babies are delicate."
"I can be gentle! I promise!" Aiko declared, her determination clear in her voice.
Saya, always the quiet thinker, spoke up again. "Do you think the baby will look like you or Daddy?"
Suzune smiled. "We'll have to wait and see, but no matter what, they'll be a part of this family."
Gojo, ever observant, looked at his parents and asked, "Is this why you've been happy all day?"
Suzune exchanged a look with Kiyotaka, her heart swelling with love for their children. "Yes, Gojo. It's a very special kind of happiness."
As the evening went on, the house was filled with an overwhelming sense of love and excitement. Suzune and Kiyotaka spent time answering the kids' questions about the baby, and the laughter and joy that filled the room felt like a perfect reflection of the new life growing inside her.
Later that night, after the children had gone to bed, Suzune and Kiyotaka sat together on the couch, reflecting on the day.
"I can't believe how excited they are," Suzune said softly, resting her head on Kiyotaka's shoulder. "It makes me so happy."
"They're good kids," Kiyotaka replied, his arm wrapped around her. "They're going to be wonderful older siblings."
Suzune smiled, placing her hand gently on her stomach. "I still can't believe it's real. After everything..."
"It's a miracle," Kiyotaka said quietly, his hand resting on top of hers. "One that we'll cherish."
Suzune looked up at him, her eyes full of love. "Thank you... for everything. For being by my side."
Kiyotaka gazed down at her, his expression soft. "I'll always be by your side, Suzune. Through everything."
In that quiet moment, with the house still and the night calm, Suzune felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. For her family, for Kiyotaka, and for the miracle growing inside her.
The future felt bright, filled with endless possibilities and the love that surrounded them.
