As the rain poured down around them, Taehyung’s gaze locked onto Jayti’s, his heart pounding in his chest. Her eyes sparkled in the soft moonlight, and the way her wet hair framed her face made her look even more enchanting. His eyes kept drifting to her lips, recalling the memory of their kiss from their marriage ceremony....how it had been just an act then, but now… now it felt different.
Something deep inside him stirred, an undeniable pull that he could no longer ignore. The connection between them had grown stronger with each passing day, and now, standing here in the rain, soaked through and utterly vulnerable, Taehyung felt like there was nothing holding him back anymore.
The air between them was thick with tension, a palpable electricity that seemed to charge the atmosphere. He could feel his breathing quicken as the urge to close the distance between them grew stronger. His mind replayed that kiss from their wedding day....how he had brushed it off at the time as just a necessity of the contract, but now, that memory felt different. It felt real, and the desire to feel her lips against his again was overwhelming.
Taehyung’s hand, still resting gently on her cheek, moved slightly, his thumb brushing over her skin, tracing the curve of her jaw. Jayti’s breath hitched at his touch, her eyes widening just a fraction, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she stayed still, her gaze flickering down to his lips as if she could sense what he was thinking....what he wanted.
The rain continued to fall, drenching them both, but Taehyung barely noticed anymore. All he could focus on was her....the way her lips parted ever so slightly, the way her chest rose and fell with each shallow breath, the way she looked at him as though she was waiting for him to make the first move.
And then, without thinking, without overanalyzing the moment, Taehyung leaned in. Slowly, hesitantly at first, but as the space between them disappeared, his heart raced faster. His hand slid to the back of her neck, pulling her gently toward him as his lips brushed against hers.
The kiss was soft at first, tentative, as though they were both testing the waters. But the moment their lips met, something inside Taehyung ignited. The rain, the night, the weeks of growing closeness.....all of it culminated in this one moment, and he no longer cared about the boundaries they had once set for themselves.
Jayti’s hands found their way to his chest, her fingers curling into his damp shirt as she kissed him back, just as eager, just as hungry for the connection that had been building between them. The gentle kiss deepened, the tension between them exploding into something more intense, more passionate.
Taehyung’s arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer as their lips moved together, the rain pouring down around them like a curtain, shielding them from the rest of the world. His other hand cradled her face, his thumb brushing against her cheek as he kissed her like he had been waiting his whole life for this moment.
He could feel the heat radiating from her, even through their soaked clothes, and the feeling of her pressed against him made his heart race even faster. There was no hesitation now, no pretending that this was just for show. This was real. This was them.
When they finally pulled back, both of them breathless, Taehyung rested his forehead against hers, his chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath. He kept his eyes closed for a moment, savoring the closeness, the intimacy of the moment.
Jayti’s breath was just as uneven, her fingers still clutching the fabric of his shirt. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of surprise, confusion, and something else....something that mirrored what he was feeling.
Neither of them spoke for a few moments, the sound of the rain filling the silence around them. Taehyung’s thumb brushed her cheek again.
Jayti took a deep breath, her mind racing as she considered his words. The rain continued to fall, soaking them both, but it seemed to create a cocoon around them, making the moment feel even more intimate and surreal.
“Taehyung,” she said finally, her voice steadying as she spoke. “If we’re going to do this, we need to be honest with each other. We need to understand what we’re getting into. It can’t just be about this one night or one kiss.”
Taehyung nodded, his expression serious. “I agree. We need to be clear about our feelings and our expectations. I’m willing to put in the effort if you are.”
Jayti looked at him, her heart softening as she saw the genuine determination in his eyes. She could feel the connection between them growing stronger, the lines between their roles blurring into something that felt more real and significant.
“Okay,” she said softly, a small smile forming on her lips. “Let’s try. Let’s figure this out together.”
Taehyung’s face lit up with a relieved and genuine smile. “Thank you, Jayti. I promise I’ll do my best to make this work.”
They stood there for a moment longer, just holding each other as the rain continued to fall. The world around them felt like it had melted away, leaving just the two of them standing close, their hearts aligned in a new understanding.
Eventually, Taehyung gently pulled back, his eyes still locked on hers. “Let’s get out of the rain and back to the house. We can talk more there.”
Jayti nodded, her smile widening slightly as she took his hand in hers. Together, they walked back to the beach house, the rain soaking through their clothes but doing little to dampen the newfound warmth between them.
As they approached the house, Taehyung glanced at Jayti, his heart feeling lighter than it had in a long time. They had taken a step toward something real and meaningful, and despite the challenges that lay ahead, he felt a sense of hope that they could navigate them together.
When they finally reached the house, they entered, dripping wet but filled with a new sense of purpose. Taehyung led Jayti inside, his hand still holding hers, and as they stepped into the warmth of the house, he felt like they were starting a new chapter—one that was far more genuine than the contract they had initially signed.
They settled into the living room, the sound of the rain still softly audible through the windows. Taehyung reached for a blanket, draping it over both of them as they sat down on the couch. Jayti looked at him, her expression a mix of hope and curiosity.
“So,” she said, her voice gentle. “What now?”
Taehyung smiled, his hand finding hers once more. “Now, we take it one step at a time. We talk, we listen, and we see where this takes us. Together.”
Jayti nodded, her heart feeling lighter with each passing moment. The road ahead might be uncertain, but for the first time, she felt like they were both ready to face it.....side by side.
