Shadows and Secrets

Keep moving, keep moving...

The streets were eerily quiet as I weaved through the narrow alleys. My heartbeat pounded in my ears, each step bringing a fresh wave of adrenaline. I didn't know where I was or where I was heading, but one thing was clear: I needed to be as far away from Bakugo as possible.

That guy's out of his mind.

I ducked under a hanging clothesline, my feet splashing through puddles as I kept going. The further I got from the mansion, the more my surroundings changed. The pristine roads and lush gardens gave way to crumbling buildings and shadowy corners. This part of town was clearly neglected, but it was perfect for hiding. If I was lucky, no one would look for me here.

I stopped for a moment to catch my breath, leaning against a wall. My chest heaved, but I forced myself to stay quiet. The last thing I needed was to draw attention.

Okay, focus.

 Figure this out.

I took a quick look around. The streets were mostly empty, with only a few stray cats darting between alleys. No one seemed to be following me—yet. But I couldn't afford to get comfortable. Not in this world.

Kacchan's gonna flip when he realizes I'm gone.

Probably tear the whole mansion apart.

I grinned a little at the thought, but it quickly faded. I didn't have time for jokes right now. I needed somewhere to lay low. Somewhere out of sight.

Just ahead, I spotted an old building, its windows boarded up and the paint peeling from its walls. Perfect.

I approached cautiously, keeping an eye on my surroundings. The door was slightly ajar, so I slipped inside, careful not to make any noise. The interior was dark and smelled like dust and mildew, but it was shelter. That's all I needed.

This'll do for now.

I found a corner near the back, away from the windows, and sank down against the wall. My muscles screamed in protest, but I ignored the ache. I just needed a moment to breathe, to think.

What the hell am I gonna do?

I stared at the floor, my thoughts spinning. In the span of a day, I'd been hit by a car, dragged into some insane alternate world, and labeled as a "pet." Oh, and apparently, Bakugo was some kind of mafia boss with cat ears. Just your average Tuesday, right?

I groaned, running a hand through my messy hair. This is crazy. No, scratch that. It was beyond crazy. I should be in class right now, training to be a hero. Instead, I was hiding out in some rundown building, trying to figure out how not to end up as a house cat in a world that didn't make any sense.

Suddenly, I heard voices—low, hushed, and just outside the building.

Wait, what's that?

I froze, my senses on high alert. The voices grew louder, and I realized they were coming from somewhere nearby—maybe just outside the wall I was leaning against. Slowly, carefully, I shifted to a crouch and edged closer to the source of the sound. There was a crack in the wall, barely noticeable, but enough for me to overhear what was being said.

Voice 1: "...he's getting careless. Too comfortable in his position."

Voice 2: "You think now's the right time to make a move?"

Voice 1: "It has to be. That maniac is distracted with that human pet. This is the best chance we'll get."

I narrowed my eyes, pressing my ear closer to the crack. They were talking about Bakugo.

Voice 2: "And the insider's still in place?"

Voice 1: "Yeah. Everything's set. Once the signal's given, they'll take him out from the inside. We just need to be ready."

Wait... what?

My heart skipped a beat. They were talking about taking Bakugo down. An inside job? This was bad. Really bad.

Voice 2: "And what about the kid?"

Voice 1: "The human? Doesn't matter. He's just a distraction. Focus on the plan."

I bit my lip, my mind racing. These guys weren't just some low-level thugs—they had a real plan. And whoever was helping them was on the inside of Bakugo's organization. That meant it wasn't just Bakugo in danger—anyone close to him could be caught up in this.

Great.

I finally escape, and now I'm overhearing a plot to kill Kacchan.

Just my luck.

But what was I supposed to do? Go back and warn Bakugo? After everything that just happened, I wasn't exactly in the mood to be buddy-buddy with him. But... I couldn't just let him get killed, could I?

I leaned back against the wall, my mind a mess. Why did I always end up in these situations? Hero training or not, I didn't exactly have a lot of options here. If I stayed hidden, I'd be safe—for now. But if I did nothing, Bakugo and his people could be in serious danger.

Voice 1: "We move tomorrow. Tell the others."

Voice 2: "Got it."

The footsteps faded, and soon, the voices were gone.

Tomorrow... that's not a lot of time.

I sat there, thinking. As much as I hated to admit it, I had to do something. Even if Bakugo was a total jerk, letting him walk into a trap wasn't an option. That wasn't who I was. I wasn't just going to sit by and let people get hurt—not if I could help it.

Guess I'm heading back.

I sighed, running a hand over my face. This was not how I planned to spend my afterlife. But if I was going to survive in this crazy cat world, I couldn't just run away from every problem.

Alright, Kacchan... looks like you've got some enemies to deal with.

And lucky for you, I overheard just enough to stop them.

With that, I pushed myself to my feet, dusting off my pants. I didn't have a plan yet, but I was good at improvising. And if there was one thing I knew for sure, it was that Bakugo wouldn't see this coming.... but I also hoped that with this information, I would have enough to be able to negotiate with him about my PET situation.
