So, I Died... Saving a Cat?

Okay, just breathe.

Mafia boss or not, you have to ask.

What the hell happened?

I leaned against the doorframe, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly. Bakugo was still standing there, arms crossed, glaring at me like I was wasting his time. Which, let's be real, was probably true. But I couldn't ignore the fact that I had to be here for some reason, right?

"So... before I ended up here," I started, my voice hesitant, "something... happened."

Bakugo raised an eyebrow, his tail swishing back and forth like an annoyed metronome. "Yeah, no shit something happened, Deku. You don't just end up here for no reason."

I sighed. "I know, I know. I just... I don't really know how to explain it."

Bakugo's eyes narrowed. "Try."

Great.

Thanks for the patience, Kacchan.

I let out another sigh and ran my hands through my hair, trying to make sense of what I was about to say. Honestly, even to me it sounded crazy. But then again, I was standing in a world ruled by cats. So, maybe it wasn't that insane after all.

"I was walking home," I said slowly. "It was just a normal day. And then... I saw this cat."

Bakugo stared at me, clearly waiting for more. I shifted uncomfortably under his gaze.

"It—it was in the middle of the street," I continued, my voice dropping a bit. "A car was coming right at it. I couldn't just... I couldn't let it die."

Because clearly, I have some sort of weird complex about saving things that are small and in danger.... wouldn't be at UA otherwise.... it was hard but I did get into the first year... started it recently but hey.... I got in.

"So, what did I do? I jumped. I grabbed the cat, pulled it out of the way," I said, staring at my shoes. "But... the car didn't stop."

I paused, my throat tightening as I remembered the moment of impact. The screech of tires, the blinding lights, the sudden pain—then... nothing. Just black.

"I guess I got hit. Or rolled over. Honestly, I'm not sure. Truck, car—whatever, same difference. Point is, I saved the cat and... well, I think I died."

I glanced up at Bakugo, expecting him to yell at me or mock me for being an idiot. But instead, his eyes went wide, and his ears flattened against his head.

"You what?" Bakugo snapped, his voice an octave higher than usual.

"I saved a cat," I repeated, frowning. "And then got run over. That's how I ended up here. I think."

Bakugo cursed under his breath, running both hands through his hair in frustration. "Damn it, Deku, you—ugh! This is exactly why you're here! Stupid, self-sacrificing idiot."

I blinked, confused. "Uh... what?"

He turned on me, eyes blazing. "You didn't just save any cat, dumbass! You got yourself killed saving one of us."

Wait, one of them?

What does that even—oh.

I stared at Bakugo as the realization slowly sank in. "You mean... the cat I saved...?"

"Yeah," Bakugo snarled. "That cat wasn't just some stray. They gave you one of their lives, Deku. That's why you're here, alive. Or... well, sort of alive. You're stuck in this world now because they passed their life onto you."

Excuse me, what now?

"So, I... have a cat life now?" I asked, trying to wrap my head around it.

Bakugo grunted. "Basically."

I blinked again, my brain short-circuiting. "Wait, wait. You're telling me the reason I'm not dead is because a cat gave me one of their lives? Like... I got hit by a car, died, and now I'm in some kind of cat mafia world because of a life-exchange loophole?"

Bakugo rolled his eyes. "Pretty much, yeah."

Okay.

So, this is officially the weirdest thing to ever happen to me.

And that includes getting run over by a car.

I pressed the heels of my hands into my eyes, groaning in frustration. "So, what you're saying is, I can't go back. There's no way to undo this?"

"Nope," Bakugo said flatly, popping the "p" like it was nothing. "You're stuck here. No going back to the human world after that."

Just great.

"Because I saved a cat," I muttered to myself, my head spinning. "I died... saving a cat."

Bakugo clicked his tongue, crossing his arms again. "That's what you get for playing hero. You always had a death wish, didn't you?"

I glared at him. "I didn't want the cat to die! It was instinct, okay? Besides, it's not like I knew this would happen!"

Bakugo rolled his eyes. "Yeah, well, welcome to your new reality, Deku. You've got cat life now, and you're not going anywhere."

I stood there in stunned silence, processing what he just said. I wasn't dead, but I wasn't exactly alive either. I had... a cat life? And I was stuck in a world where humans were pets, and cats ran everything?

Yup.

This is definitely hell.

Bakugo's gaze softened just a little, though he still looked irritated. "Look, it's not the end of the world. You'll figure it out. But you can't just run around like a clueless idiot anymore. You've gotta keep your head down, or you'll get yourself killed for real this time."

I couldn't help but let out a small, bitter laugh. "Guess I should thank the cat, then. Saved my life by... giving me theirs."

"Don't get sentimental, dumbass," Bakugo snapped. "They probably regret it now."

Of course Bakugo would say that.

I sighed heavily, running a hand through my messy hair. "So... now what? I just live here? As a... cat person?"

Bakugo shrugged. "Pretty much. You can't go back, so you might as well get used to it. Besides, we're not all bad. As long as you don't piss anyone off, you'll be fine."

Yeah, sure.

Totally fine.

In a world full of cats with guns.

What could go wrong?

I slumped against the doorframe, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on me. No way out. No going back. I was stuck here because of one act of heroism.

"Well," I said quietly, "this sucks."

Bakugo snorted. "No shit, Deku."
