The Shot I Didn't Ask For

So... what now?

I stared at the ceiling, mind going in circles. Nothing made sense. I was in a mansion—no, scratch that—a mafia mansion full of cat-people, and somehow, I was the odd one out. It was hard to even process everything, and now I was starving on top of that. Still not eating that grey blob they dared call food, though.

I rolled over on the bed, feeling the stiff sheets under me as I groaned into the pillow. Is this my life now? Hero in training one moment, now downgraded to... this. What exactly was I supposed to do? Run? Scream? Fight? I mean, I had already fought Bakugo, so what else was there?

As I was trying to make sense of my completely upside-down world, there was a knock on the door. And of course, it had to be now.

Please don't be him.

Please don't be him...

"Oi, Deku! Open up."

It was him. Great.

I sat up, dragging my feet to the door. I pulled it open just enough to see Bakugo standing there, arms crossed, his usual scowl firmly in place. But he wasn't alone this time. Standing next to him was an older woman—maybe in her 60s or 70s—dressed in a neat, traditional-looking outfit, and she gave off major Recovery Girl vibes. But she wasn't Recovery Girl. This lady had an air of authority about her, like someone you definitely didn't want to mess with.

She smiled warmly. "Hello, dear. I'm Yuzuki, and I'm here to give you a little check-up."

A little what?

I blinked. "A check-up? What for?"

Bakugo grunted. "Stop being a pain, Deku. She's here to give you a shot."

Hold up, a shot?

I froze. The words barely registered at first. Did he just say shot?

Yuzuki stepped forward, already pulling out a syringe from her bag. It was long, gleaming, and full of something suspiciously clear.

"This is standard for pets—uh, I mean, humans—who wander into our world. It's for rare diseases, protection against infections, and, of course, rabies."

Rabies?!

"W-Wait a second!" I blurted, stepping back. "Did you just say rabies?"

Bakugo gave me a deadpan look. "Yeah. You got a problem with that?"

Oh, I've got lots of problems with that!

"You can't just give me a shot like that! I'm not some animal!"

Yuzuki tilted her head, clearly trying to be patient with me. "Dear, it's important. We don't want you getting sick, and this will help protect you from any... complications."

I opened my mouth to argue, but the sight of that needle coming closer had me backing up fast. I wasn't about to let them jab me with whatever that was.

"Complications?" I asked, raising my hands as if to ward her off. "Like what, exactly? I'm not a stray dog, I'm a human!"

Yuzuki smiled, far too sweetly for someone about to stab me with a needle. "It's just a precaution. You see, humans are rare here, and we need to make sure you're healthy. Rabies is very dangerous, you know."

Oh, believe me, I know!

But that doesn't mean I need a shot like I'm some wild animal!

I shot Bakugo a pleading look. "Kacchan, seriously? You're gonna let them do this to me?"

He raised an eyebrow, completely unimpressed. "Why are you freaking out, nerd? It's just a shot."

Just a shot?

Just a shot!?

"No, it's not 'just a shot!'" I nearly shouted, backing up until I hit the wall. "I didn't sign up for this! I saved a cat, and now you guys are treating me like I have fleas or something!"

Bakugo groaned, clearly annoyed. "You're making this harder than it needs to be. Just let her give you the damn shot so we can move on."

"Move on from what? Rabies? I don't have rabies! Why do I even need this?"

Yuzuki, ever the patient lady, lowered the syringe slightly. "It's not just for rabies. It's a comprehensive injection to keep you safe from any illnesses in this world. You might have been exposed to things you're not immune to."

Things I'm not immune to?

You mean like the insanity I'm currently surrounded by?!

"I'm fine!" I insisted, heart pounding. "I've been fine! No rabies, no weird diseases, nothing! I just got hit by a car, and now you guys think I'm some kind of stray animal that needs shots and flea treatments?!"

Bakugo crossed his arms, giving me a look that said he was this close to dragging me into that room and holding me down himself.

"Deku, you're not getting out of this. You either take the shot, or I'll make you take it."

Oh, great.

Violence.

That's the solution, as always.

"Can we... just talk about this?" I asked, trying to sound calm, though my voice wavered. "I didn't sign up for any of this! I'm not a pet, I'm not sick, and I definitely don't need a rabies shot!"

Yuzuki chuckled softly. "Oh, dear. I'm afraid you don't have much choice in this. It's for your own good."

I was trapped. Backed into a corner with no way out. I could feel my pulse quickening, adrenaline kicking in. Was this seriously happening? After everything, after fighting my way into UA, this was how it was going to end? In a mafia mansion, being forced to take a shot like I was some sort of feral cat?

Nope. 2

Not happening.

I darted to the side, trying to make a break for the door. But Bakugo was faster. Of course, he was faster. In a flash, he was in front of me, blocking my escape route with that infuriating smug grin of his.

"Where do you think you're going, nerd?"

To freedom, if I could just get past you!

"This is insane!" I protested, glaring at him. "You can't just force me to take shots like I'm your property!"

Bakugo's eyes narrowed, his temper flaring up as he leaned closer. "You are in my world now, Deku. That means you follow my rules. Got it?"

Nope.

 Not doing it.

I stood my ground, glaring back at him. "I'm not your pet. I'm not your property. I don't care if you're a mafia boss or whatever—you don't own me, Kacchan."

For a moment, it looked like he was going to explode—literally. His hands twitched, and I could almost see the sparks flying. But instead of blowing up, he just smirked.

"Fine," he said, stepping aside. "You want to make this difficult? Be my gueste."

I didn't need his threats. I didn't need the shot. What I needed was a way out of this ridiculous world.
