Nah not a pet!

It had been two weeks since that conversation with Kacchan, and every day since, I felt more and more suffocated by the thought of being just a "pet." No matter how much I tried to convince myself that it would be an easier life, I couldn't ignore the voice inside me screaming for something more—something meaningful.

This morning, I knew what I had to do.

I made my way to Kacchan's office. The mansion had quieted down after the last skirmish, but there was always a hum of activity. Kacchan, of course, was right at the center of it all. Running his territory, keeping the balance, making sure things didn't fall apart. It wasn't the life I'd ever imagined for myself, but then again, I wasn't in the world I'd imagined either.

When I reached the door, I took a deep breath. I'd been thinking about this for days, but now that I was about to say it out loud, nerves were starting to set in. Was I really about to choose this life? This world?

With a sharp knock, I pushed the door open.

Kacchan was at his desk, going through a stack of papers. He looked up, his eyes narrowing when he saw me. "What the hell do you want, Deku?"

I closed the door behind me, stepping forward with more confidence than I actually felt. "I need to talk to you."

He raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. "Go on."

For a second, I hesitated. I knew the words, I'd practiced them in my head, but actually saying them was harder than I thought. Still, I couldn't back down now.

"Kacchan... I can't live with myself as a pet," I started. His expression didn't change, so I pressed on. "I've thought about it, a lot. I know you were trying to protect me by giving me that option, but... that's not me. I can't just sit back and do nothing. I want to help. I want to make a difference."

His eyes narrowed, but there was something in his gaze that wasn't quite as harsh as usual. "So, what? You wanna be one of my men now?"

I nodded. "Yeah. I accept it. I know it's not the world I came from, but this place... it needs someone who can see things differently. I can help make a change here, too. Not as a pet, but as someone who's really part of it."

Kacchan didn't say anything for a moment. His eyes studied me, sharp and calculating, like he was trying to see if I really meant it. Then, he smirked, shaking his head.

"You really are a dumbass as always.... refusing a nice life...that's just you," he muttered, but there was a hint of pride in his voice. "Fine. You wanna help, then I'll put you to work."

I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding, my heart racing as he leaned forward, pulling out a map of his territory. "Here's how it's gonna go. You're not getting involved in the dirtiest shit, alright? That's my world. You... you can do the planning. Oversee the defenses, make sure the people living here are safe. I'll give you control over that, so you can still feel like you're doing your little hero act."

He tapped the map with a finger. "This is my territory, and I need it defended properly. I've got guys keeping the peace, but it's not enough. I want you to look over everything, come up with a strategy to make sure nothing slips through the cracks. And yeah, that means you're responsible for these people. If you screw it up... well, you won't. You never do, do you, Deku?"

The teasing tone in his voice almost made me smile, but the weight of his words hit me hard. This was real. He was actually trusting me with this.

"I can do it," I said firmly, stepping closer to the map. "I'll make sure everything's solid. Defenses, routes, communications... I can make sure everyone here has the best life possible. I'll help protect them."

Kacchan watched me for a moment, then stood up, walking around the desk until he was standing in front of me. "You sure about this? Once you're in, you're in. No backing out."

"I'm sure," I replied, meeting his gaze. "This is the only way I can help and live with myself."

He smirked, that familiar, arrogant glint in his eyes. "Good. Then don't mess it up, dumbass."

I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't help but smile a little. This was Kacchan's way of showing he cared, even if he'd never admit it.

We spent the next couple of hours going over the map, talking through different plans and strategies. He gave me control over planning defenses, mapping out areas that needed extra protection, and making sure the people in his territory were safe. It wasn't hero work in the traditional sense, but it was something. I could make a difference here, in my own way.

By the time we were done, the sun had started to set, casting a warm glow through the windows. Kacchan leaned back in his chair, stretching with a satisfied grin on his face.

"You're lucky, you know," he said, his tone lighter now. "Most people wouldn't get this chance."

"I know," I replied, folding up the map. "Thanks for trusting me with this."

He shrugged, though I could tell he appreciated the gratitude. "Just don't get yourself killed, got it? I'm not dragging your sorry ass out of any more trouble."

I laughed softly, feeling lighter than I had in days. "I won't. I'll be careful."

As I turned to leave, Kacchan called out to me. "Deku."

I stopped, glancing back at him.

"You made the right choice."

For the first time, his words weren't harsh. They weren't a command or a threat. They were... genuine. It wasn't often that Kacchan spoke like that, and hearing it made my chest tighten with something I couldn't quite explain.

I gave him a nod, not trusting myself to speak without my voice cracking, and left the office. As I walked down the hallway, I couldn't help but feel... proud. Proud of the decision I'd made, of the work I was going to do.

It wasn't the life I had imagined. It wasn't about being a hero in the way I'd always dreamed. But it was something. I could help people here. I could make sure they were safe, that they had a chance to live peacefully.

And maybe, just maybe, I could still be a hero. Even in this world.
