Breaking Out

The morning sun filters in through the curtains of my room, casting a warm glow across the floor. I've been awake for hours, staring at the ceiling, listening to the quiet sounds of the mansion waking up. Footsteps down the hallway, doors opening and closing, muffled conversations.

Kacchan wanted me to stay in my room today, "No exceptions," he said.

But there's no way I'm sitting this one out. Not when I know something big is going down.

I get out of bed, my mind already made up. As expected, the door is locked from the outside. Not surprising—Kacchan probably thought I'd try something like this. He thinks locking me in will stop me? He must've forgotten all those times I managed to escape his traps as kids. Getting out of here is nothing compared to surviving at UA and the human world.

I glance toward the window, a small smirk tugging at my lips. Yeah, this'll be easy.

I carefully unlatch the window and push it open, feeling the cool breeze brush against my face. My room is a few floors up, but that's never stopped me before. I step out onto the narrow ledge, balancing myself before I look down.

Piece of cake.

I take a deep breath and leap, catching the edge of the balcony below me with ease. My hands grip tightly as I swing myself over, landing silently. I've spent years training my body for moments like this—parkour, dodging, agility. Every ounce of training I did to get into UA is paying off right now.

Kacchan may have me locked inside, but there's always another way out.

I repeat the motion, moving from ledge to ledge, balcony to balcony, until I reach the rooftop. It's a workout, sure, but nothing I can't handle. My muscles remember the routine, and it feels like I'm in my element again. The thrill of moving through the air, of escaping, it's like a surge of freedom I didn't know I was craving until now.

Once I reach the top, I pull myself up and stand, feeling the rush of victory as the entire mansion's rooftop stretches out before me.

Guess I'm not staying in my room after all, Kacchan.

I survey the area, noting the positions of the guards on the ground below. No one's looking up—they never do. It's one of the basic rules of stealth. People rarely expect you to take the high ground, and that's exactly why I'm here. From up here, I can see everything.

The rooftops of the surrounding buildings, the expansive garden, and the city beyond. For now, I'm hidden. I've got the advantage. But it's not just about being out here to enjoy the view—I'm on a mission.

There's too much at stake to sit back and watch everything unfold. I need to stay ahead, stay prepared, and most of all, stay involved. And if that means breaking a few rules along the way, so be it.

Kacchan won't like this.

But honestly, Kacchan doesn't have to like it. This is bigger than him trying to control me or keep me safe. There's a real threat coming, and if I'm going to help protect him and his people, I need to see things for myself. Besides, this is more than just protecting him—I'm not his pet. I'm not going to let anyone decide my life for me.

Sitting back, being compliant—it's not me. It's never been me.

I cross the rooftop, scanning for any more weak points I might've missed last night. I pause near the edge, crouching low as I peer down. The guards have changed shifts since the early morning. I can tell because their patterns are slightly different. It's a small detail, but it's something I need to keep track of.

If there's an attack planned for today, it'll come soon. They'll likely aim for the mansion's weakest points. I already noted a few vulnerabilities in the structure last night, but I need to be certain before I can relay anything more to Kacchan. And for that, I need to stay mobile.

I leap to the adjacent rooftop, my feet landing lightly on the tiles. From here, I can see the entire layout of the mansion and the surrounding areas, every corner and blind spot. I commit them to memory, knowing they'll be useful later.

They won't see me coming if I stay up here.

I feel the adrenaline rushing through my veins as I continue my recon. Every movement feels deliberate, controlled. Up here, I'm free—no one to hold me back or tell me what to do. For now, it's just me, the wind, and the thrill of running.

As the sun continues to rise, I know I need to keep moving. Kacchan's going to find out soon enough that I'm not in my room, and once he does, all hell will break loose. I grin at the thought.

Let's see how long it takes for him to figure it out.

I take another leap, landing gracefully on a lower section of the roof. My mind is racing with possibilities—what's coming next, how I can stay ahead of the attack, and how I can keep one step ahead of Kacchan. It's all a game, really. A high-stakes game where the rules are made up as we go.

But I'm not scared.

Not anymore.

I've faced worse things than this.

I'm about to make another jump when I hear something. Faint voices. They're coming from below, near one of the side courtyards.

Curious, I inch closer, careful not to make a sound. I peer over the edge and see two figures standing near the garden entrance, talking quietly. I can't make out every word, but the tension in their conversation is clear.

Guard 1: "...can't believe he's still running around. Thought Bakugo had him locked up tight."

Guard 2: "You're telling me. I heard they've been looking for him since dawn."

Looking for me?

A smirk forms on my face. So, they've already noticed I'm missing. I guess Kacchan didn't waste any time sending his people after me. Good. Let's see if they can keep up.

I slip back into the shadows, out of sight. I know I've got the upper hand for now. Kacchan may be good, but he's not going to catch me so easily.

Back on the rooftop, I continue my silent reconnaissance, enjoying the freedom of moving unseen. It's exhilarating, really, to be up here while everyone below is scrambling to find me. Kacchan can throw all his guards my way, but I'm not going to make it easy for him.

Let's see him try.

I settle into a comfortable spot near the edge, leaning back against a chimney as I watch the mansion's movements. From here, I can see everything unfold. Guards pacing back and forth, staff moving about, and the occasional flash of Kacchan's explosive temper as he shouts orders at his people.

You're not going to catch me that easily, Kacchan.

I chuckle to myself, waiting to see how long it'll take him to realize just how high I've gotten.
