Let him get close... wait for it... wait for it...
And dip.
I'm gone.
I can practically feel the confusion rolling off Bakugo as he stares at the empty spot where I was standing just seconds ago. Oh, come on, Kacchan, you really thought you had me there? Nah. Not today.
I hop from one rooftop to the next, my feet barely touching the ground before I'm off again. My body moves on instinct, muscle memory from years of parkouring around city blocks to get away from things a lot scarier than Bakugo. But right now? This is just fun. I can't help but grin as I look over my shoulder to see Bakugo cursing up a storm, trying to figure out where I went.
Man, he's pissed.
But it's kinda his own fault for thinking he could catch me.
You gotta be quicker than that, Kacchan!
I don't say it out loud, but the thought definitely crosses my mind. Honestly, after everything, this is the stress relief I didn't know I needed. After the insanity of waking up in a mafia-run cat world, nearly getting stabbed with a pet vaccine, and being forced to deal with the reality of this "pet" situation, this feels good. For once, I'm in control, and I'm not about to let Kacchan—or anyone else—take that away.
I pause for just a second on the edge of a roof, peeking down to see Bakugo scanning the area. He's close, real close this time. I can see his eyes narrowing, his fists clenched in frustration. There's no way he's giving up now.
Good, I think, feeling my heartbeat pick up.
Let's see what you've got, Kacchan.
I wait until he's right beneath me, practically breathing down my neck. Any closer and he'll grab me. Any second now, he's going to make his move. But just before he does...
Boom.
I launch myself off the roof, flip mid-air, and land on the next building over with barely a sound. Bakugo's left standing there, staring at nothing, probably wondering how the hell I disappeared again. I almost laugh. It's like some kind of ridiculous dance at this point.
Sorry, Kacchan, but this quirkless kid isn't so easy to catch, huh?
It's kind of hilarious, in a weird way. I've been running all my life—whether it was from bullies, danger, or just the crap life threw at me for being quirkless. But now? Now I'm running because I want to. Because I can. And because it's fun messing with Kacchan like this. He's always been faster, stronger, better. But this? This is my game.
Another rooftop, another escape. Bakugo's still behind me, but I've got the upper hand. I zigzag between buildings, scaling walls and slipping through tight spaces that he'd never fit into. Every time he gets close, I let him think he's got me. I let him feel like he's going to catch me, just for a split second.
And then, when he's sure he's finally pinned me down?
I'm gone.
Catch me if you can, Kacchan.
I dare you.
I can practically hear the explosion of frustration coming from him, even if I'm too far away to hear it. He's probably yelling something like, "Get back here, you damn nerd!" Or something else that sounds equally pissed off. Classic Bakugo.
But I keep going. One jump, then another. My legs are burning, my breath is coming faster, but I'm not slowing down. Not yet. This is way too much fun.
Suddenly, I feel a shift. Bakugo's not far. He's closer than I expected, and this time, he's not holding back. I can hear his footsteps pounding behind me, getting louder, faster. For a split second, I wonder if maybe this time he'll catch me. Maybe he'll finally outpace me, pin me down, and drag me back to that stupid mansion like I'm some stray dog. But then—
Nope.
Not today.
I dive into a narrow alley, ducking into the shadows. I know the city layout like the back of my hand now, and I'm not about to let him win. I dart through, quick and light, and just when I feel Bakugo closing in again, I make my move.
With a swift leap, I'm up, grabbing the edge of the fire escape and pulling myself onto a new rooftop.
Bakugo skids to a stop below, panting, looking around wildly for me. His eyes flash with fury, and I swear, if looks could kill, I'd be dead twice over. He knows I'm up here. He just doesn't know how I got up here. Or why he can't seem to catch me.
I lean against the edge of the building, peering down at him with a smirk. It's not like me to be this cocky, but right now? I can't help it. I've got the upper hand, and for once, Kacchan doesn't.
This is my game, Kacchan, and you're not winning.
I wave lazily, just to rub it in a little more, and then—
Gone.
Back to the rooftops, back to the thrill of the chase. I let Bakugo get close again, just enough to keep him on his toes. But every time, I slip away at the last second, leaving him confused, cursing, and wondering how the hell I'm pulling this off.
Guess all that hero training wasn't for nothing, huh?
I can feel the tension in my muscles loosening with every leap, every turn, every successful dodge. The stress of being in this messed-up cat world, of being treated like a pet, of all the insanity that's been thrown at me? It's melting away. I'm in control here. Not them, not Kacchan, not anyone.
Just me.
And it feels good.
