"okay, so you go to new york for a week, record and release an entire song, go to joe's game, go on those cute ass cafe dates with him every morning, show him personal tours around the city, show him your favorite spots, and then just come home and won't spill any actual details?" tori asked throwing her head back in annoyance letting out an exaggerated sigh.
"well not that exact order. but, yes," sophie shrugged pretending she wasn't doing this on purpose. she wasn't intentionally torturing her best friends, but, it wasn't exactly her fault they all lived off of her love life.
"you're seriously not telling us anything?" jenna's new friend she introduced everyone too, amelia barker, asked. the girls had only spend the morning together, but they all knew of each other so it felt like a group of girls who had been best friends their whole lives.
"well, technically, she did in 'slut!'" jenna shrugged staring directly at sophie as she spoke.
"i mean, technically you're right," sophie replied, feigning innocence as she took a long sip from her iced coffee. the girls all stared at her, barely blinking, expecting way more than sophie was willing to give up. they practically fed off her romantic drama like it was the last piece of romance on earth.
"oh, come on," tori said, leaning forward, her eyes narrowed. 'you give us an entire song about 'being sooo in love,' and then that's it? we're just supposed to connect the dots on our own?"
sophie shrugged, swirling her drink. "that's what good art is about, right? interpretation."
amelia snorted, shaking her head. "babe, this is not an art exhibit. we want details."
sophie leaned back, trying to stifle a grin. "well, what do you want to know? we ate food. we saw stuff. end of story."
"stuff?" tori raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "soph, he's an nfl quarterback, not some guy you're randomly sightseeing with. don't you dare 'we saw stuff' us."
"seriously," jenna chimed in, pulling her hair into a messy bun. "i want to know if he kissed you, how you felt, what you wore, everything."
sophie let out a laugh, shaking her head. 'you're acting like i just returned from some rom-com movie plot."
"well, did he?" amelia asked, leaning in with that hopeful sparkle in her eyes, like they were all just waiting for the big romantic reveal. "did he kiss you?"
sophie took a dramatic pause, looking at each one of them before shrugging. "maybe."
the three girls groaned collectively, tossing pillows at her from every direction.
"ugh, you're literally impossible," tori said, rolling her eyes. "come on, soph! spill."
"okay, okay," sophie finally gave in, raising her hands in surrender. "he's actually really sweet.
the girls all gasped, leaning in, hungry for more. "keep going! we already knew that!" they urged, eyes wide.
sophie laughed, feeling herself blush. "he just... he's not what i expected. we'd go out for coffee, and he'd listen to me talk about the most random stuff, like why i think pigeons are actually undercover spies and stuff like why i like white roses better than red roses. and he just gets me. he doesn't try to make me feel bad for being all over the place."
amelia's jaw dropped. "he sat there while you talked about pigeons?"
"and thought it was cute," sophie nodded, clearly amused.
"okay, he might be perfect," jenna said, practically swooning. "i mean, you can't get that kind of patience anywhere."
"it's just nice to be around someone who actually listens," sophie admitted, feeling a bit vulnerable. "especially after you know, all that media stuff."
"girl, all that media stuff," tori repeated with a knowing look. "they never let you breathe for a second."
"but he's different," sophie said softly, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "he gets that i don't want to share every piece of myself. it's just... nice."
the girls sat back, quiet for a moment, all smiles. then tori broke the silence with a mischievous grin. "so when are you seeing him again?"
sophie laughed, shaking her head. "can we get through one conversation without you trying to plan my future wedding?"
"no?" tori asked as that was the dumbest question ever, "we're fully invested. you knew what you were signing up for.'
