↬ BEGIN AGAIN - chapter thirty-three.
⌗ real life.
✧🦢˚˖୨୧⋆。🩰✧it was the first morning in days that sophie didn’t feel like a complete zombie. the relentless fever had broken overnight, and while her body still felt weak, the pounding headache and bone-deep exhaustion had eased up. she blinked against the soft morning light streaming through the curtains, finding joe perched on the edge of the bed, scrolling through his phone.
"morning," she croaked, her voice still a little raspy from the flu.joe immediately looked up, his face lighting up with relief. "hey, how’s my girl feeling?"
"like i got hit by a truck, but at least it backed up and left this time," she joked, her lips twitching into a weak smile.
he chuckled softly, leaning down to kiss her forehead, a habit he’d picked up over the past few days of her being sick. "you’re not as warm. that’s a good sign."
"i feel human again," she admitted, sitting up slowly.
"whoa, whoa, take it easy," joe said, steadying her with gentle hands. "you’re not about to go running a marathon. i’ll grab you some water."
"joe, i can get it," sophie protested, but he was already halfway to the kitchen.
when he came back, he had water, a steaming mug of tea, and a plate of dry toast. "baby steps," he said when she raised an eyebrow at the plain food.
she sighed but accepted it, knowing he wouldn’t let her argue. "you’re gonna spoil me," she teased, taking a small sip of the tea.
