The following Monday was a typical start to the workweek, but there was an undercurrent of anticipation in the office. Naina and Ekansh’s interactions had become noticeably warmer over the past few days, though they still navigated their complicated history with caution. The balance between their professional responsibilities and personal feelings was delicate, but they were both making an effort to manage it.

Naina arrived at the office early, eager to dive into work and clear her mind. The project pitch was approaching, and she wanted to ensure every detail was perfect. As she settled into her desk, she noticed Ekansh’s desk was still empty. She checked the clock—it was almost nine.

I was just starting to get absorbed in the revisions when Ekansh finally walked in, looking a bit disheveled but determined. He gave me a quick, apologetic smile as he walked past my desk.

“Sorry I’m late,” he said. “Traffic was a nightmare.”

“No worries,” I replied, not letting on that I’d already been here for a while. “Let’s just focus on getting through today’s agenda.”

We worked side by side for the next few hours, focusing on the final touches for the pitch. The more we collaborated, the easier it felt to interact with him. We were in sync, bouncing ideas off each other and making quick decisions. It was as if the past was slowly fading into the background, replaced by a new sense of teamwork.
