IRIDESCENT
CHAPTER | Eleven
"This is a mistake." Jughead said, hours later.
They were back in the Jones' residence. FP was sitting at the kitchen table while Jughead stood in the doorway. Savannah was sitting on the couch in the living room, trying her best not to eavesdrop.
She had texted Betty a while ago, and Cheryl had caught her up to speed with what happened with her great uncle and how she had injured him. It looked incredibly likely now, that Hal Cooper was the Black Hood.
The only reason that Savannah was sitting on that couch, was because Cheryl and Kyle were on their way to check on Betty at that moment.
They promised to give an update, after Kyle apologised for about ten minutes straight.
Savannah told him that he couldn't have done anything. There were four ghoulies and only one of him. She appreciated the apology though.
"You can see that right?" Jughead continued, "We'd be going in blind, Dad. Will you listen to me for two seconds?"
She heard clattering from the kitchen, and turned to face the door.
"For all we know, the ghoulies outnumber us 100-to-1."
A chair slammed across the room and Savannah jumped out of her skin.
"Don't you think I know that?" FP thundered.
For a moment there was silence, before FP started knocking more things to the ground in his rage. Then he yelled.
"Boy, I have been doing this a lot longer than you have. And we voted. If we're going down, we're going down fighting. As far as being outnumbered, I'll rally the reserves. They'll fight."
She heard the door slam. FP had left.
"Baby?" Savannah called out to her boyfriend, rushing into the kitchen. Jughead had his head in his hands on the table. "Baby, baby." She soothed, reaching out to him.
She cradled his head to her chest, stroking his cheek. She could basically hear the cogs turning in his brain.
Then his eyes caught his Hiram Lodge board, and inspiration struck.
Jughead stood from the table, moving so he could pull Savannah toward him. He knew what he had to do.
"I love you, you know that right?" He said to her softly, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Yeah, of course." Savannah laughed lightly. "I love you too." She frowned, "Where is this coming from?"
"If we're both going to war tomorrow, I want to spend what might be my last night, with you."
And then he kissed her. Soft and tender at first, before his hands pulled her closer into his body, holding her close as if for dear life.
She didn't know. If she had, she would had screamed at him, instead of melting into his embrace and allowing him to hike her legs up around him. They moved into the bedroom, where Jughead laid her down gently on the bed.
He paused to look at her.
"You're so beautiful."
Savannah blushed, and was thankful that in the dark, he couldn't quite see the pink on her cheeks.
She pulled him back to her, wrapping her legs tightly around his waist and only letting him go to remove his clothing.
They stayed there for hours, holding and loving each other as if it really were their last night on Earth. Savannah truly intended on going with him, but she had no idea that he was lying to her yet again.
