Y/n's  Pov

A sharp knock echoed through the thick, dimly lit corridors of the manor, reverberating in the silence like a drumbeat. I stood still for a moment, instinctively gripping the edge of the ornate table beside me. My eyes flickered toward the door, and a sense of anticipation coursed through me. I had been expecting this visit, though I didn't expect it to arrive quite so soon.

With a deep breath, I pushed myself forward, crossing the cold floor as the knock repeated, this time more urgent. I twisted the handle and swung the door open to find Baxter standing there, his eyes darting over his shoulder as if expecting someone to be following him.

He stepped inside swiftly, the usual calm and collected expression faltering slightly. He was anxious.

"You're late," I muttered, closing the door behind him.

Baxter's eyes flickered with the faintest hint of regret. "There were... complications." He reached into his coat and pulled out a slim, manila file, handing it over to me. "Everything I've gathered so far. They're getting closer. Too close."
