"I knew you'd be mad a little, but you can't seriously expect me to bring you along?" Jasper chuckles, amused by his stubborn mate who often forgets about her humanity - the same fragile humanity he's determined to protect for as long as she wants that.
"Edward's bringing Bella, so why can't you bring me?!" Y/N quips, hands on her hips and a glare set on Jasper and his annoying, shit-eating grin.
"I highly doubt Bella will get anywhere near the woods. I'm positive Eddy boy will make sure Charlie grounds her or something." Jasper shrugs, passing Y/N so quickly to avoid a new argument that it only pissed her off.
"Damn, Jas, for a guy who can feel emotions, you really fuck up often." Rosalie jokes as Y/N rushes past her, meeting up with Bella on the stairs.
"He's not letting me go." Y/N huffs.
"Same." Bella presses her lips together, seemingly fine with the decision. It always baffled Y/N how easily Edward swayed Bella to do as he asked her to and even when they fought, Bella forgave quicker than she ever could.
Alice waves at them from the bottom of the stairs, a knowing look upon her lips. "Don't fret girls, you'll have a lot of time to join us in the future."
Mouth open, Y/N groans when Alice disappears too. "I'm going anyway."
1st person POV
I run downstairs, walking out with Bella in tow, only to stop dead in my tracks when I'm met with a vampire I didn't recognize.
"Don't move." I speak low, just above a whisper to warn Bella who gasped at the sight of a stranger with crimson in his eyes instead of the liquid gold they are both used to.
"Garrett!" Carlisle appears out of nowhere and the girls let out a heavy sigh. For a moment, Y/N could see her life flash before her eyes and while she expected a disarray of her greatest hits, she didn't see much but him - Jasper. He was in every thought she deemed her last and believing she'll never see him again had made her heart tear like paper.
"What a delicious welcome." The vampire licks his lips and a violent shiver runs down my spine. A sudden gust of wind sends my hair flying and a hand grips my hip. Pulling me close to him, Jasper stands tall.
"If I were you, I'd look for an easier meal." Rosalie snickers, standing behind me and I sigh in relief. Jasper is here, so are the rest of them. We're safe.
Looking up, I see his stern expression - the one it took months to melt when we first met. His jaw is clenched, eyes set on the one they call Garrett and his entire body is rigid, tense as if he's ready to act in a blink of an eye if necessary to make sure I'm protected. Clinging to him, I wrap my arms around his middle.
"I'm just teasing." Garrett raises his arms in mock surrender, laughing at Jasper's reaction. "Though your little human is certainly mouth-watering." He nods my way and I frown.
"He's telling the truth." Edward informs. "He won't hurt the girls."
In a flash, I find myself clutching to Jasper for dear life, my surroundings a blur until he comes to a sudden stop in the middle of the forest.
"Are you alright, darling?" His hands cup my cheeks, looking me over with a worried, nearly panicked look in his eyes.
"I'm fine." I breathe out, using the proximity to plant my lips against his to calm his nerves. He responds almost instantly, holding me close to him so much so I could hardly take a proper breath.
"I don't think it's safe for me anymore." I whisper between kisses, using his graciously given breathing pause.
"Oh." Jasper steps away, his eyes glued to the ground.
"I mean, it's not safe for me as a human. But as a vampire.." She trails off and he shakes his head, his golden locks swaying with the movement.
"No. Not yet." Jasper turns to her, his usually stoic expression washed away by a tortured one. "You wanted to graduate college, remember?"
"I can still do that." She shrugs, coming closer. "Just a little later." Smirking, her arms wrap around his neck, bringing his head down. "Imagine how easier it will be. I won't be as fragile or weak."
"You're not weak, darling. Not even close." A small smile adorns his lips as he pecks her nose. "You can't be weak when you bend me to your will every single day."
