Things have been tense over the last few weeks. Bella got herself into yet another situation where the Cullen's needed to protect her, and this time the wolves were stepping in to help take down this "newborn army." To say that you were feeling overwhelmed was an understatement. You are terribly worried that Jasper will get hurt trying to protect Bella of all people. The wolves were unrelenting about their hatred for vampires, which worried you if they would do something sneaky to the Cullen's when they were otherwise concerned with this army. Your mind was filled with hundreds of worries that you had almost forgotten about another pressing matter.
Paul Lahote.
The wolf had taken a liking to you back before you even knew about wolves or vampires. You had grown up with Jacob, and met the temperamental wolf just a few months before he apparently turned. More recently, your friendship with him and Jacob had been very strained, given that you were dating their natural enemy. It wasn't like you didn't care for your friends anymore - but you didn't trust them and they didn't trust you. Still, Paul could be quite a trouble maker AND a flirt - not a good combo.
Over the last few days, you saw Jasper less and less. He had been spending more time training with his family and the wolves, and also hunting to be at full strength for the fight. He would call you at the end of the night and text you throughout the day, but you hadn't actually seen him since the first day that the wolves trained with the Cullen's. You had an inkling that he did not want you around because of what happened on that day.
You had insisted on coming with, despite his worries. He instructed you to stay by the trucks with Bella until they were finished, which you listened to. However, you stood by his side while he spoke to the wolves about the differences between newborns and themselves. No one missed the way that Paul snarled beside Sam when Jasper put his arm around your waist as he spoke. He did not do it to provoke him - it was a habit for him to be touching you when you were together. It seemed to piss the wolves off a bit though. Sam snapped at Paul's snarling but you watched warily as the wolf's eyes glared at Jasper the whole afternoon.
Since that day, Jasper has insisted that you stay home as much as possible and that he would rather that you did not come when they were training with the wolves. In turn, you hadn't seen him in nearly a week.
It wasn't that you were clingy or overbearing, but you missed him so much. There was always something inside of you drawing you to him - it felt to you the way that Jacob explained imprinting. Carlisle had once vaguely explained mates and blood singers to you, and you felt as though it was something out of your control drawing you to him like a magnet. It had only been a week but it felt like a month to both of you. You desperately missed his cool hands on your skin, the smell of his cologne, the sense of security his presence brought you.
It actually made you feel sympathy for Bella - someone you were not fond of - for how she must have felt when the Cullen's left last year. You had known Jasper and his siblings, but you were not dating at the time. Even still, when they suddenly vanished and moved away from Forks, you were pretty upset too. You had grown to care for Jasper very quickly, and even then it had felt like something was drawing you to him. If you are struggling for a week away from him, although still communicating - you can't even imagine how you would have felt in Bella's position. The thought brings a tug at your chest and you shake away the idea that you could ever have to live without him.
You pull out your phone from your pocket and tap on Jasper's conversation, deliberating on what you should say. You needed to see him - you were missing him too much. You were worried, you were craving him, all of your emotions were running wild.
Can I see you today? I really miss you
You hit send on the message before you could change your mind, leaning back on your bed as you await his response. The battle was approaching quickly - according to Alice, they would arrive in two days. Edward was planning on taking Bella up the mountain to camp, so that her scent is present but she is hidden. Jasper had been discussing different ideas with you as well during your nightly phone calls. He wanted you close to him but out of harm's way. You had suggested going up with Bella to the mountain, but he was thoroughly against the idea of you being anywhere near the battlefield. It was still undecided where you would be during all of this, but that was not your concern at the moment.
