I didn't know how it happened, one moment I was walking home from the market, the next I was waking up on the floor of an abandoned barn. Clutching my throat, I cry out into the darkness as a burning sear rips through my neck. Sitting for a few moments, unaware of my surroundings, I try to ease the insatiable burning.
Suddenly, I'm snapping my gaze up to a beautiful woman with blood red eyes who is smirking down at me. She leans down, petting my head in mock pity, "Welcome. I can tell you will be of great use to me.".
Confused, I look around to see a group of people standing to one side of the barn, looking pitifully at me, a handsome blonde staring dazed at me. As I meet his gaze it seems like the world pauses, allowing us a few minutes to drink up each other's presence. It's unexplainable but it seemed like my life before was incomplete and now I've finally found the last puzzle piece to pursue happiness.
Standing up, I'm unaware of the woman who was previously crouching next me, glaring hatefully at us. Mumbling to myself I find myself standing in front of the man, his blonde hair flowing down in waves, his blood red eyes less threatening than the woman's.
He seems to be as entranced as me as he reaches up and brushes my hair out of my eyes, "Well hello there darling." He whispers with a thick accent.
"Hi." I answer breathlessly, bringing my hand to cup his. As my hand makes contact with his, I flinch as I am pushed away. Looking up, I see the woman grabbing his neck and bringing him into a heated kiss, one that he instinctively returns. Feeling my heart drop in disappointment, I trudge towards the group of people, one of them patting me on the back.
We look on as they continue to make out, breaking apart a few dreadful moments after, she sends a smirk my way as he looks down in confusion.
What the hell just happened?
"Now let's get started shall we." She announces wickedly.
It had been almost a year now and Maria has trained us to become bloodthirsty machines, her personal weapons for her army.
It had been miserable, killing innocent people and watching Maria suck off Jasper's face all the time. Especially after learning vampires had mates, and he just happened to be mine. Though Maria seemed to always butt in when we had spent more than a few minutes together alone.
Despite this we had grown close and he had given me tips on fighting, although I didn't really need them since I was a capable fighter, almost as good as him.
I was standing alone in the barn at the moment, gazing into the sky, praying for an escape. It was hard to get to know the other vampires because they would always disappear not long after, and you knew Maria either killed them or sent them into a fight they had no chance at winning. Although she never sent me as I was a useful asset to her coven, even if she hated me for being so close to her "mate".
I'm brought out of my thoughts as I hear a cough from behind me, turning I see the cowboy himself, shifting nervously.
"Hey Jas... are you okay?" I ask gently, approaching the blonde, resting my small hand on his shoulder. He nods stiffly, grabbing my hand and pulling me outside the barn, into the moonlight. I could tell something was wrong but the sudden skinship made me lose my train of thought.
Giggling, I squeeze his hand. "What's gotten into you soldier?" I tease, humming happily at his change in behavior. Soon we arrive at a little clearing, a little distance away from the worn down barn. He turns around and brings his hands to my neck, staring down at me. I see a million emotions running through his eyes, his hands shaking a little sensing hesitation.
"Calm down J." I say, bringing my hand up to squeeze one of his. He sighs resting his forehead against mine for a moment.
"Can I tell you something?" I whisper, enjoying the affectionate state he was in.
He pulls away, nodding at me to continue. I smile warmly, gripping his arms.
"I think I'm in love with you." It felt like a huge weight was lifted off of my chest as I had finally had the courage to confess after all these months. Although his reaction makes my heart plummet, the weights dropping back down onto my chest, feeling even heavier.
He recoils back as if my touch burned him, he runs his hands down his face in frustration and I could swear there are tears in his eyes. Mumbling something I heard him whisper an apology.
"You don't have to say it ba-" before I could finish he steps further away, shaking his head.
"Y/N. You need to leave." He says coldly, looking me dead in the eyes regaining his composure.
"Jasper. Maria is using you-" He cuts me off by speeding towards me, tightly gripping my forearms.
"Y/N. Please you need to leave now, before Maria finds out I didn't finis-" he pauses when he realizes what he just said as my eyes widen in realization. I push him away with all my strength, backing away.
Tears pool in my eyes as I look at the man I love in horror.
"You were going to kill me?" My voice breaks at the end, as I hug myself suddenly feeling cold.
"Y/N, please wait-" he starts, tone laced with regret.
"Goodbye Jasper." I whisper void of emotion before I speed off into the night, determined to forget the cowboy who had stolen my heart and crushed it into a million pieces.
I stop in the middle of a forest, gripping my chest as I sob. I knew I would be broken beyond repair for a long time, and a piece of me would always be missing as I kept feeling his cold hands gripping my neck.
I had no idea how long I had been running for, I had gotten a message from an old friend, Carlisle, saying that his family was in danger and he would love it if I could come to help aid in the fight. The trees were all a blur as I ran by, I let out a joyous laugh, one that had been bubbling in my throat for a while.
Not much later I found my golden eyes landing on a group of people and a large house, I could feel the presence other vampires inside.
Good, they have others willing to fight for their cause.
Running straight for Carlisle, I throw my arms around him, feeling him chuckle and kiss the top of my head. Pulling away I turn to Esme and hug her too, mumbling on about how I had missed her.
"Everyone this is Y/N L/N, a nomad from New York. I met her in-" I pull away from Esme, smiling knowingly at Carlisle.
"In 1866. I remember it just like yesterday."
As I turn to face to greet his family I catch Edward's eyes and I gasp, "Edward! My child, you've grown up!" I tease throwing him a wink. He rolls his eyes in irritation but the smile on his face betrays him.
My happiness is cut short when I hear someone clear their throat quietly from behind me. "Y/N?" I freeze, eyes widening when I realized that I knew exactly who that voice belonged to.
Turning I see him nervously looking at me, cutely fiddling with his fingers. Over the years I had learned to understand where he was coming from, realizing it wasn't necessarily his fault because Maria had her claws sunk deep in the cowboy.
Although it took a long time, I had managed to forgive him.
"I'm sorry, for everything-" He begins, walking towards me. I smile a little, realizing just how much I missed him. He looked the same except his eyes were golden like mine.
When he realized he didn't feel any anger radiating off of me, he looked up confused and saw me smiling.
Before he could continue, I speed up to him and wrap my arms around him, "You big stupid idiot." I whisper as he laughs, hugging me tightly. We take a few moments to come to terms that we had finally found each other again.
"I missed you darling." He mumbled.
I pulled away pecking his lips, "And I missed you too baby."
"I'll be better, I promise. It's you and me now, forever." He mumbles dreamily, smiling into my neck.
"You know we all have enhanced hearing right?"
"Shut up Emmett they were having a moment!"
