The weeks at the Academy passed in a blur, but the subtle shifts in power and dynamics continued to ripple through the group of students. My influence was growing. The funny thing about causing chaos is that the more you do it, the less anyone sees it coming.
Naruto was gaining confidence, his energy more focused as he trained harder than before. Sasuke's silent rivalry with me had only deepened. I could feel it every time his eyes burned into my back during training. And Iruka-sensei, well... He was trying to figure me out, but his concern just made things more entertaining.
But today? Today was special.
Because today, I wasn't going to play by any rules—not even the ones I'd bent. The Academy was hosting a small-scale sparring tournament, designed to test the students' progress. Every kid was on edge, eager to prove their worth. And I, the quiet director in the shadows, pulling strings no one could see.
And for me, it was the perfect opportunity to stir the pot.
Match One: Hinata vs Sakura
This match wasn't mine, but that didn't mean I couldn't get involved. As Hinata and Sakura faced each other on the field, I leaned back against a tree, watching them closely. Hinata timid, shy, full of potential but too scared to use it. Sakura eager to prove herself but lacking the raw talent of her peers.
They were easy targets.
The proctor raised his hand, signaling the start of the match. Hinata's eyes flickered nervously toward Naruto in the crowd, while Sakura focused, clearly determined to win. The moment they charged at each other, I let my chakra seep subtly into the air.
A small nudge here, a minor twist of reality there it didn't take much.
As Hinata and Sakura's hands collided, a spark of chakra flared between them. For just a brief second, Hinata's control slipped, and her eyes widened in panic. The usually gentle flow of her chakra turned erratic, causing her to stumble backward.
Sakura, seeing an opening, rushed in with a punch but my chakra-infused "push" made it too strong, too reckless. She overcommitted, and Hinata, out of instinct, dodged to the side, accidentally delivering a perfectly timed strike to Sakura's ribs.
The crowd gasped, and Sakura hit the ground with a heavy thud, clutching her side. Hinata stood frozen, eyes wide in horror.
"Winner: Hinata Hyūga!"
Hinata stammered, "I-I didn't mean to-"
I smirked, watching the confusion ripple through the audience. Neither of them had any idea what had just happened, but that was the beauty of it. A little manipulation, and suddenly, their own insecurities had done the rest for me.
Match Two: Shikamaru vs. Choji
The next match was a different kind of challenge. Shikamaru and Choji were best friends—brothers in everything but blood. Their bond was stronger than most, which made it all the more entertaining to pit them against each other.
As they stepped onto the field, Choji looked uneasy, glancing at Shikamaru. "You sure about this, Shikamaru? I don't really wanna fight you."
Shikamaru sighed, already bored. "It's just an exercise, Choji. Let's get this over with."
I could feel the tension between them—neither really wanted to fight. Which meant it was my job to change that.
As the match began, I reached out with my chakra again, subtly feeding it into the atmosphere. This time, I targeted their emotions, amplifying the smallest flicker of doubt or frustration.
