Forgotten Pie and cream

Tim's shift was long even though it was 5 hours it felt like an eternity. He missed Lucy they had finally come together his thoughts were all about her. He wishes the shift away he wanted to be back in her arms.

Meanwhile, Lucy stood at the door her hand trembling she shook her head. It's just a room she told herself. Her breathing quickened she walked away.
Walking into their bedroom she went to her bedside table and opened the drawer she took out a small piece of fabric it was a muslin. She brought it to her face. Breathing in she could smell Tilly it calmed her but tears started streaming. Putting it away she changed into running gear she put her headphones in i need to escape her voice told herself.
Looking at her watch she didn't know if she would be back in time for Tim so rang him
Tim seeing Lucy's name flash up answered it straight away
T- hey babe you okay?
Lucy heard the urgency in her voice.
L- yeah I'm just going on a run in case I'm not back when you are
T- ah ok yeah no worries share your location though love you have fun
L- Already done will do love you too darling she said with a laugh.

She was running in the nature park suddenly she felt the stitch come. She stopped running and bent over to catch her breath. She sat down on the bench the cold air burning her lungs. Her eyes taking in the beauty of the scene. No one else was out it was so peaceful. Lucy felt calm and at peace.

Her phone pinged
T- will be an extra hour bloody case notes! Xx
L- no worries still out running don't work too hard! Xx

After she sent the message she looked around taking a sip of her water bottle she checked her pace.
That was far enough her legs ached slightly and she didn't want to push it.

She stood up and started with a brisk jog on the route home. She loved this trail it looped back to Tim's and her house. It was just over 9 miles.

Her rhythmic feet pounding the ground and the occasional bird call was all Lucy heard. Then it caught her ears. She pulled her earphones out her ears her eyes scanning her surroundings. Maybe it was an animal she thought.

She went to jog again and 10 steps in she heard it again. Halting in her tracks she looked around. It sounded like a small child's cry.

Lucy looked around hello she called bending down and spinning her body around looking in all directions.

Then she saw the small girl come out of the bird watching hut. She was wearing flower leggings and blue top with a purple cardigan her lip trembling

I can't find my m-mu-mummy she cried Lucy bent down hey sweetheart she said were you walking in the park with your mummy ? Lucy asked

The small girl nodded i lost her she cried her hands rubbing her eyes.

My names Lucy I'm a police officer so I'm a safe adult okay I'm going to help you find your mummy. Lucy said with a smile.

Lucy stood up the little girl walked over to her what's your name sweetheart Lucy asked Tilly the child said Lucy felt her chest tighten the little girl grabbed Lucy's hand. She felt sick and her eyes wanted to fill with tears but blinked them back.

What a beautiful name she said how old are you Tilly ? Lucy asked softly trying to hold it together.
I'm 4 she said her hand holding onto Lucy's so tightly.

Okay darling let's go sit on the bench and I'm going to give my friends a call they are police officers too so they will be able to help.

Lucy started walking Tilly's little legs keeping up. As the pair got to the bench Tilly tried to climb it but it was a bit too high. Lucy picked her up and sat her on the bench.
