N/a: I'm do sorry for Daniel this is so unfair, he didn't deserve this. There's much worse driver on the grid but they decided to sack out honey badger instead when there's only 5 races left

*real life*

Charles looked at the time and realised it was lunch soon so he got up and started getting ready. He didn't really know why he accepted it in the first place since he didn't wanna have anything to do with Max after everything. Especially knowing they drunkenly got married. He looked himself in the mirror and sighed, he wasn't mentally ready for that. He walked up to his kitchen to pack a bit of food as it was supposed to be a picnic as Max said. He made a sandwich, packed some vegetables, cheese, fruits and took a drink with him. He took his jumper with him and got outside. He locked the door and walked to the lift. He walked to his car and got inside and drove to the cliff where Max asked to join.

Before he got out he took a breath and closed his eyes for a few seconds. He knew the fight was his fault and Max was probably about to say it and tell him he didn't want anything to do with him anymore. He opened the door and got out spotting the Dutchman on the side with a backpack next to him. He walked up to him and sat down in silence, observing the sea with the midday sun reflecting on it. The same way it did with Max's eyes, Charles thought as he was getting lost in his mind.

"Hi." Max simply said without looking at him. "Hi." Charles didn't know what to add, he thought Max could start the conversation as he was the one that had invited him. The two of them stayed there in silence and observed the landscape. Even after what happened, they could still enjoy their company and their simple calming presence. Charles got his backpack and took some food out and started eating calmly. Max turned his head towards him and took his own lunch. They both ate slowly postponing the talk they had to have. They knew it was necessary but they wanted to avoid it.

"So... huh I wanted to meet up." Max said feeling the tension and the pressure between them. Charles looked up and his eyes widened a bit as he didn't want to explain anything. Of course he knew most of it was his fault but did he want to say that and explain how carelessly cruel he was? No. "Yes..." Charles didn't say nor do anything else. Max looked at him intensely, like he wanted him to understand what he wanted through his eyes. "We could start at the beginning even before it all happened." Max suggested. Charles swallowed hardly and took a sip of his drink.

"Well huh, before I start I wanna say that I know it's mainly my fault. As you know I had a very shitty weekend and was in a bad mood. I had disappointed myself and my whole team. And I passed by you, it annoyed me how you bumped into me cause all I wanted to do was go back to my room and sleep the night off. I would have had the same reaction to anybody else. I knew you had an excellent weekend and it was even worse I didn't want to hear about it. I knew it would upset me even more." Max listened to everything Charles had to say and understood he had shit races like that sometimes and because of the team too. But he had to cut him, he had to know, he needed to, if he meant what he told him that night. "Ok, ok, but that night.. did you mean everything you said? Like about the shit dad insults. Cause I know I didn't mean the dead dad insults." Max said the last sentence looking directly at his eyes. His emerald green eyes, that were so deep you could see through.

"No. I would never, I hope you know that." Charles answered calmly. "But it looked so easy for you to be so mean like you said all those things just like that as if they were all already ready to say." Max said with a sad smile. "I promise on Jules' head, I would never say that to you and actually mean it. Believe me." Charles said really trying to convince him. "I believe you." Max reassured him with a smile. "But I gotta ask, you said if I remember right, 'you were destined to be great. But apparently il predestinato had other plans' do you actually think I'm not great..? Do you think I'm not worth it?" The monegasaue said as he looked down a bit. "What no! I never said it like that. It was more about being kind. We were so mean to each other, you- you said so much to me and I wasn't expecting it. I was so surprised, it almost crushed me to hear those things." Max had looked at him while saying it but he looked away in the sea. "I'm so sorry. I never meant to make you feel so bad." Charles said softly as he delicately put a hand on Max's shoulder. The Dutchman put his own on it and they stayed like that for a few minutes.
